Number Plate Removal
Guys I wonder if any of you can come up with any ideas. My brand new E90 has its number plates stuck on with silicone. Only problem is the idiot at the garage stuck the front one on squint. It ruins the appearance of the car in my opinion. To top it off he used RED silicone on a white car.
I want to pull the plate off without damaging the paintwork and then clean the awful red silicone off. Does anybody have any ideas about how to go about this. I thought about using some dental floss and then running it behind the plate to try and prise it off but does anybody have any other ideas? This is doing my nut right in |

I think you can buy silicone remover from a diy store, might be tough to apply it though
not sure heat or dental floss etc will work on silicone? WTF did they use silicone when sticky pads do the job fine? |

I would definatly take it back for them to remove it - they should not use silicone!!
Dont bother do it yourself, take it back to the dealer to remove.

Totally agree, if the dealer is close take it back to them. That way if there is any damage which is very unlikely it would be their fault.

DEFO take it back - clowns!
Plates should be fixed on properly with screws and correctly coloured caps. Strange though, as my dealer gave me the option of having them screwed on or stuck on? Apparantly some have complained in the past that screws have been used! I opted for the screws as with the curvature of the front plate, I thought it would be more permanent! |

The dealers is more than 2 hrs drive away from where I am. I am worried about these silicone removers. I think they might damage the paintwork. Has anybody used them before or does anybody have any other ideas? I think the dealers here might balls it up and make an even worse job. I just do not trust them at all.

I would call the dealer and say you are unhappy - they may be able to liase with a dealer local to yourself, who could do the rectification FOC?
I don't think the silicon will damage the paint, but it is likely to damage the foil on the back of the reg plate. |
