RPM Jumping?

Ok so I was driving on the express way about 65, (in sixth gear) and I went to accelerate and switch lanes. As stepped on the throttle my RPM's jumpped about 400-500 RPM's immediately, but the car didn't accelerate. Then the RPM's fell and the car lunged forward. Any Ideas?

Yes sir.
6MT.
I even switched into valet to see if it was still happening... and it was, the RPM's just were not jumping as high...
I also just pulled the codes and I have this one.

Fortunantly I had some other clutch components fail, and BMWNA said that they'd warranty my clutch up to 100K...

But which clutch did you guys switch to? How did they compare to the stock one?

That code is a tuner code from the older beta v4 firmware. If you update to the current firmware/map, you shouldn't get that. And the new maps are incredibly responsive to boot.

The clutch slipping issue is not related to the code. The only thing that causes that is torque output. It's fun until it makes your clutch slip. Mine lasted 60k miles with dozens of drag strip launches so I can't complain. I recently upgraded to a Spec clutch/light flywheel combo and couldn't be happier. Rattles a little during idle but the throttle response and engagement is strong yet progressive.

Yea, I have an XI I wonder if that Accelerated the killin' of the clutch on top on the torque. Guess I'll start checking out clutch replacements.

The downside of awd cars is that they put a lot more stress on the clutch since they hook up so well. With 2wd cars, we get wheelspin which is really nice to clutches
