What are those things?
Pardon my ignorance, but what are those two parts under the bonnet??

you've been misled
The answers you've received so far are incorrect, due to the fact that you called the hood a bonnet. You're only in Montreal for Christ's sake.
By the way, the go-go lounge at the top of St Laurent street is declining in terms of quality eye candy. Please address this. |

As far as I know, (1) is just the 12V jumper terminal, NOT the ground.
The ground jumper is usually hooked up to that hex shaped collar on the R/F inner fender just to the left (in the pic) of the coolant resevoir.
