Homebrew clay bar lube?

Does anyone have any recipes? Will soapy water in a spray bottle work?

Soapy water is fine. I usually go that route personally as its the most cost effective and seems to lubricate quite well.

Use ONR instead. Just mix it more concentrated than normal ONR washing. It's inexpensive and makes an excellent clay lube. And no need to worry about soap residue.

soaps like dawn/palmolive will degrade the clay bar compared to a QD/clay lube dedicated product. Just something to think about

You shouldn't need to clay very often, and any form of lube you prefer is relatively inexpensive. I'm all for saving a few bucks, but you might as well use ONR or QD when claying. Both are proven and used by the pros, so why mess with success when a bottle of ONR is cheap?

I did this for the first time 2 weeks ago...I was very pleased with the results...ONR is the "shiiizite"

Im not disagreeing with you at all, but some people dont have ONR or other ideal lubrication methods for the "unplanned detail" which is why I recommend soapy water.

Naturally, there are more prefered methods as you suggest.
