You need to buy the mirrors, a new instrument section for the driver's door, a new control unit and, I think, the car has to be re-coded.
Arm and a leg to do it. |

Can I ask why you want this feature so badly? I have this option on mine and I can honestly say I've only ever flicked the switch about three times (and two of those were playing while very bored in traffic). If there were anything I'd not spec it'd be the folding mirrors (and possibly the auto-dimming rear view mirror - I like to know if I have a car with a blue light on top behind me).

If you desperately need electrically folding mirrors the best way is to find a car with them. As Alan has said above it is a very big job to retrofit, and very expensive. In addition to the parts mentioned above you will also need a new footwell module and a new wiring loom, not to mention the hours and hours they will quote you for fitting (the whole dash has to be removed.

My X5 has electric folding mirrors and they needed replaced. Were covered under warranty and then on the second occasion by a goodwill payment. My dealer told me each mirror was about £500 each.
I can understand the feature being important to you as it was to me when buying the X5. I searched so many cars to get one with all the spec and also the folding mirrors. Use them every day in and out of garage. My 335 also has the feature, just so happened the car i chose had them as they do not really matter to me on it. |

I had them on my E92 335d. What annoyed me was that they didn't automatically fold in when you locked the car with the remote. Waste of about £200 or so. The V70 and the Merc GL has/had them, they fold on locking.

Folding/unfolding when you lock and unlock the car respectively was removed in all LCI cars and post March 09 build E92/E93. Apparently this is due to a new footwell module and the feature can no longer be programmed at the dealer as previously possible.
