Brake rotors

Guys unlike some blokes I`m happy with my size (330 mm) but want to replace the rotors with some cross drilled items, better pads, dot 5.1 and braided hoses. Any suggestions (I don`t feel I can justify the cost of a BBK)

Why cross drilled?

Check out stoptech ... I haven't looked for the e90, but I know they usually come out with +1 upgrades that swap out rotors, pads, lines and fluid while retaining the stock caliper (thus standard rotor size).

Can be pricey if they do a 2 piece rotor but there's a lot of unsprung weight to be saved there if they do.

I'm milling over bbk or just replacing the rotor with a 2pc. But the bbk sellers don't like to mention how much those nice blingy calipers weigh.

bbk's, cross drilled & braided lines

i'll agree that braided lines and dot 5.1 might be a worthy upgrade to already fantastic brakes, but the drilled rotors are just a waste of money. have a read;

http://flashoffroad.com/Maintenance/...akeRotors.html

it'll make for a convincing argument. and yes,.. i know, higher end bimmers, mercs, lambos, etc. all have the fancy cross-drilled rotors, but they're really just for show.

Thanks for the quick replies, yes I know they`re just for show and real men use slotted ones. Can`t find any info on Bavarian Motorsport, will try tyre rack now.

ok. first i want to address the cross drilled issue. TMS aka Turner Motorsports uses crossdrilled technology. " TMS Cross-Drilled Rotors
The natural enemy of braking performance is heat. When temperature levels reach critical levels, a thin layer of gasses actually prevent the brake pads from making complete contact with the rotor friction surface. The addition of cross-drilling the friction surface promotes the evacuation of these gasses and improves stopping performance and pedal feel. TMS cross drilled rotors and AXXIS brake pads result in improved braking performance and look great too! All TMS cross drilled rotors are made to exacting standards by the worlds leading brake manufacturers. Each part is then analyzed for its specific application and design. Engineers then determine the optimal drilling pattern to maximize stopping power. These patterns are then cut into the rotor using today's most advanced CNC machines. This level of quality control ensures that each TMS High Performance rotor will perform to the highest levels every time under all driving conditions. All TMS cross-drilled rotors feature counter-sunkholes that reduce stress risers and fractures. " There are ways to get around cracking rotors. Slotted rotor "clean the surface of your pad" BS it scrapes it clean. meaning that you will have to change your pads sooner. I have had both on my 3 series. The "bite" from slotted is scraping your pads surface. Neither failed me. I am a believe in cross drilled because if you do it right like TMS then they are just as good if not better. Y would you put big crossdrilled rotors on an ///M5? If they were going to fail don't you thing BMW would have a BIG law suite on their hands. Not all M5 owners are snobby and want to buy more rotors if the same problem keeps happening. That is my piece on it.
MikeM fill out a questionere(sp) on bavauto in the contact us area/option. They will get back to you and you and you better believe they are working on stuff for the e90. so try contacting them and if they don't answer there is always Active autowerks. Good luck

Manu didn`t have anything and is still looking.

As for the X drilled disks I asked my dealer on Sat as we were in getting a 1 series for Miss Mikem and the cross drilled rotors on the M3/M5 are cast with the holes in, not drilled afterwards. This apparently retains the strength far better and thus resists cracking.

OH OK

That makes sense I thought they were all cross drilled. If they are cast like that then you can manipulate the system and get M3 hubs to make it work. Is that sond logic? But yeah the rotors being CAST w/ holes makes sense. Thanks for the heads up.

Don't know about rotors.

Check Goodridge G-Stop SS Lines.

Check Motul 600 Fluid.
