Watch out for wheel/tire thieves - Bay Area

* I posted this one on M3Post.com, but thought that I should post here too

Scary..

Tonight, police officer knocked on my door and asking if I own a BMW M3, they recently caught wheel theieves and found a wanted list (those bastards are in jail now!!)

Guess what, my HRE P43 was on their list too!!

I've been told that they had a huge list for all over the bay,

Guys, if you have aftermarket wheels on your M3, make sure you have wheel locks on it, and park secured place only!

wow thanks for posting this... makes me wonder, what do you guys think of buying 5 different sets of wheel locks, and putting them on? will make it that much more difficult to steal rims...

Think it's a good idea?

Definitely will take 5x longer for the wheel thieves to steal your wheels, but also what if you had a flat tire and need to change on the side of the road, or need to do any brake works. Will be funny that you hand the dealership 5 sets of wheel lock keys...imagine the look on their face when you tell them / hand them the keys...

I've already got Lojack and an alarm, might as well put 5 sets of wheel locks on my car. I don't go changing brakes every day, and I've had cars broken into and ripped off before that insurance didn't cover, so I think it may just be a good idea.

I'd really like to make my car as unattractive to a thief as I possibly can, short of putting flame throwers or electrifying the body, this may be the next step.

Wheel locks are ridiculously easy to get off, no matter what kind they are. When I worked at a dealership, we would have to pull em off trade ins all the time. You can buy removal kits from Snap-On, Matco, etc. They won't slow the thieves down one bit! It's like locking your doors. All it does is keep honest people honest. If they want something you have, they'll take it.

A kit that does that does exist...saw it on tv once. I would think it would just piss someone off and make them damage your car after getting the shit shocked out of them though
