I washed my 335i engine and...

...everything went fine, the car started

I used plenty of 5/1 dilution of Chemical Brothers Orange Degreaser on a dry engine bay, let it about 5 minutes, after this I washed it with my Karcher Pressure Washer at 7/10 power. Then I used some Zaino Z7 shampoo with a sponge to clean the parts again, and washed it again with pressure washer. Looks like new

I only protected a relay using a plastic bag (which is part of the Power Kit and it is not present on a stock car).

Happy washing

Care to provide a picture of critical areas to cover or avoid when washing? I really want to wash my engine bay, but don't want to mess anything up.

I don't think you would need to cover anything up if you have a stock car. I use a hose attachment and only squeeze the trigger enough to get the fan spray setting, to keep the pressure low. The engine bay cleaning kits from the auto parts stores do most of the work, and a sponge or rag can get the stuff the cleaner does not.

I would bet that you did a way better job than me though...I am looking forward to seeing the pictures.

I only covered a relay which is not part of a stock car...so don't worry
I used quite a lot of water too...

I was just a bit careful to direct the jet from the top and not from the sides because this way the chance of water entering the wrong places is small.

Also, you may want to wash the engine after about 5-10 minutes of running from cold (so not a hot engine ! but not a dead cold one either). This is because the grease will be easier to clean, and the water evaporates more quickly.

I wet the engine with a fan spray, then go at it with CG Grime Reaper and my EZ Detail brush. Then I rinse it all down and dress it.

I only cover up my filter elements but avoid using much water pressure at all, especially around wiring and hose clamps.
