Traction Issues with 335 + Chip

So I had a 2007 e90 6MT with catless dps and V3 Proceed and getting traction (even with the stock runflats) was never an issue.

Now I have a 2010 e92 335i 6AT with a similar set up (catless dps and a v4 Proceed). I have about 4,000 miles on the car so I figure the stock runflats would be broken in by now, but I'm not feeling it. Even with stock-like power in 1st gear - with the user torque setting in 1st set at zero, getting traction off the line is a problem, perhaps due to a lower 1st gear in the 6AT or perhaps these tires are simply horrible.

I'm coming to the conclusion that the tires are just horrible...so I'm on a quest for traction (without an LSD).

What are some of the tires that your guys are running (either on 18's or 19's) for daily driver application that provides for the best "off-the-line" traction? My experience with Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3's has been terrific but they are no longer made in sizes that would fit 18's or 19's for the e9X 3-series.

Goodyear replaced with GSD3's with Asymmetrico's...which I have heard good things about...also the Michelin PS2's. Is there a consensus about the best street tire for traction?

Thanks all.

If you have 18" wheels I would get Dunlop Direzza Starspec Z1 tires. They are great tires for the money and have good wet traction too. They don't have a great treadwear rating though. I have Toyo T1Rs on my 335i but they aren't the best but they are better than run flat tires. If I did it over I would get the Faulken Azenis RT-615 or the Dunlops I just listed. Then again, I don't really drive my car that much so good tires mean more to me.

Subscribed. I am always interested to see what people think the best tires are.

for better traction you need to get an LSD but even with that you will spin a lot because of the massive torque of the engine.

I have been testing a lot of tyres and my final conclusion is:

If you driving often in wet conditions Pireli's NRFT might be your friend, it will give the best traction and braking experience on a wet road

When often driving in dry conditions then I would suggest the Pilot Sport 2 Non run flats

I haven't really found better tyres then teh Michelin Pilot Sport 2's for normal road driving... (and i'm pushing them quite hard)

Ít also depends on your suspension setup. I'm having the M sport, with a different setup, other tyres might give a better setup....

My experience with the run flats is that they are noisy and to stiff when cornering...

And the magic word is LSD... and not ment the tripping stuff..

I agree, just don't want to go down that path with a leased car.

I had tremendous benefit with traction upgrading to the Goodyears with previous cars, but given that they aren't available, I figured better tires couldn't hurt. Thanks.

Anything will be better then the stock RFTs Its one of the best things you can swap on the car. The PS2s are a good tire and I think you would be happy with those.

Nick

I had these on an older car and liked them. I will probably be going this route on the 335 when the time comes for new tires.

I have the same issue. Sometimes it's kinda fun not to have traction.

With the proceed you can adjust the amount of boost in 1st and second ear to help with traction issues.

+1 on the non-rft Bridgestones

LSD is definitely a must have mod for traction. Too bad it's so expensive
