You guessed it, yet another 335i remapped at Evolve automotive. I had my car tuned at Evolve a couple of weeks ago, and after a few initial niggles, I am enjoying a new level of performance from my 335i. My car is a Sept 09 build with the latest engine management software. Evolve had only done one other convertible with the DCT transmission and that one went without a hitch. After reading loads of rave reviews I finally took the plunge and booked a date for my remap. I arrived at Evolve's HQ in Luton to be greeted by Imran and Sultan, a couple of really nice guys. I was shown the way to the waiting room and provided with a hot cup of tea as the work started on my car
![]() ![]() Following that, I took the car out for a test drive with Imran, and what a transformation! So much more torque!! Anyway after really testing out the newfound performance I dropped Imran back at Evolve and made my way home. After about 60 miles of mainly motorway driving on the way back home I was trying to overtake someone and put my foot down (kickdown). the car started to catapult forward and then suddenly LIMP MODE. So I stopped at the hard shoulder and the engine light disappeared even before I switched off the engine. So I sent a quick message ti Imran, who responded very quickly and advised that he would come down to my house to investigate and sort out this issue (LIMP mode only on kickdown). As promised he came all the way to my house (about 100 miles) and ran a quick diagnostic. He then had Sal modify the map and the issue was solved with no loss in performance. It seems that my car had a newer version of the engine management software which is why I had a bit of a problem initially. I've now had the chance to test the car for about 500 miles with a mixture of normal and hard spirited driving. The car runs slightly warmer than before and I will probably go back to Evolve soon for an FMIC upgrade, but only after a get a Quaife LSD which is now essential I think ![]() ![]() Above all I wrote this detailed account to show everyone the commitment and professionalism of the guys at Evolve. There are many reputable tuners for the x35i engine many of them with consistently good results. However, the level of customer service at Evolve is second to none. This coupled with their warranty and the excellent forum rates at the moment, represent an unbeatable deal!!! I cannot recommend them enough ![]() Many many thanks to Evolve and I'm sure I will be dealing with you guys in the future ![]() I could not be more pleased with the result!!! Outstanding work and impeccable customer service. ![]() Last edited by a1reader; 03-10-2010 at 10:37 AM.. |

Sounds great.... Good Review.
One thing I gather from E92fan, and others, is that the stock 335i oil cooler is a bit poor, this seems to be reason they run hot when mapped rather than the FMIC. I'm looking at finding a secondary / or larger oil cooler to fit when I get mine mapped. Even standard the oil temp is easy reaching 130degC+ on a quick blast during hot days, limp mode cuts in at 147deg I believe. On a warm track day it soon reaches 140degC, even standard, and you have to back off. Last edited by doughboy; 03-10-2010 at 11:01 AM.. |

Glad your happy with the re-map. 335i is crying out for it.
Torque breaks boxes not power. Im pretty sure all the HPF Turbo'd M3's in the states have uprated clutches and 'boxes!

![]() Oil Cooler upgrade + FMIC = same cost as fitted LSD I reckon. I'd rather have the diff first, get to USE the extra power, then go for extra cooling afterwards if you really want, just keep your eye on that gauge if you're pushing on... You only really NEED the extra cooling for track work, for road use you can just slow down a bit.. |

I first had only a larger FMIC (Code 3 Performance) without an additional oil cooler, and although I didn't have any heatsoak problems (due to IAT that run too high, DME pulling timing), the oil temps were too high for my taste (rising quickly to 130 degrees when doing more than 200 km/h), even without tracking the car. I then got the ar design oil cooler which is installed in front of the radiator and more than doubles the cooling capacity (as compared to the stock oil cooler). No more oil temp issues since then, even on the 'Ring after two consecutive rounds with 30 degrees C outside temps no more than 120 degrees oil temperature. So, I'd say if you're not tracking your car and live outside Germany (i.e. where you can do high speed runs on the upper side of 200 km/h), you won't necessarily need an additional oil cooler. Neither an FMIC, if you ask me, because you'll only heatsoak the stock FMIC if you do repeated WOT runs. If you like pushing your car (also on curvy side roads), both can be a good investment into your engine's reliability, though. Alpina_B3_Lux P.S. Enjoy your remap - sounds great!

I don't think I'll ever track the car, as I have something else for that purpose (a convertible is at a disadvantage on the track anyway). But I do enjoy a spirited blast down country roads

http://www.ardesign.info/catalog/bmw335ixi-c-42_43.html The extra cooler is a great idea instead of changing the OE one. Nice catless pipes too... Did you import your cooler from the states? |

Thanks for the feedback. Glad to see you are using your car to its full potential
![]() We have supplied and fitted the additional AR oil cooler to 2 cars in the UK. Its a good bit of kit and is a requirement if a 335i is going to be tracked on a regular basis. |

He's refering to a button marked "sport" just behind the DCT gear shifter, it speeds up gear shifts and sharpens throttle response.

When you knock the stick over to the left and go to sport mode, the engines change up RPM is increased, so it hold any given gear longer. If you then push the stick forwards/backwards it goes to manual and you do what you like, in this position it doesn't kick down. |

The sport button is the one behind the gear shift in the picture below as creepy coupe has said. It is separate from the sport mode of the transmission which you go into by pushing the gear lever to the left. The sport button is only available in cars with the DCT transmission as far as I know.

As I described, in above post "Sport button" just changes gears faster and throttle response is sharper, Sport select (level to the left) lets the engine rev higher, but is ultimately an auto and lets the Pilot kick down |
