Best calling card plans to connect U.S. with U.K.?

Hey folks. My mom has an account set up with a company I don't recall as of now where we can deposit money via a credit card onto our account that would allow to make calls anywhere in the world. My mom only uses it to talk to family members back in Thailand. I used it to call a friend in London today and the rate was ridiculous.

The same amount of money allows about 24 hours of talk time to Thailand vs. about 2 hours to London.

So now I'm looking for another company that has a more reasonable rate.

It basically cost me $20-25 to talk for about 1.5 hours to someone in London today, lol.

Not sure if this is the right section, but I hope someone can give me some insight. Thank you in advance.

Try google voice. I use it to call internationally all day with ridiculously low rates. Another evil google product =).

I use a korean online phonecard website to call korea.. I saw that they had rates for every other country as well.. probably not cheap though.

^ how much per minute do you pay for google voice and what country do you call?

Does this work with cell phones and not land line? I'm calling from my cell phone to the cell phone of the other party.

That's assuming that you would normally call for at least 24.99 with current rates per month. Use Skype, they have decent rates and good service.

Also, if you have an Iphone, I like the GlobalCalling app. Good rates, you can also lease a local number to have all calls forwarded so the other party doesn't have to pay international.

I was using http://www.blackstoneonline.com/# call cards to call Ireland but I switched to Vonage for free calls from US to Ireland. Just be careful if you get vonage. I cancelled my AT&T landline thinking it wouldn't affect my earthlink dsl but I was wrong. So now I have no phone or dsl for a week. I had to change my dsl from earthlink to AT&T so they could give me stand alone dsl over the phone line.

the card I use to call Seoul is 2.9 cents a minute to a cell and 1 cents to a landline. 5cent connection fee but no maintenance or other fee. its clean and by far the cheapest I have used. I get 660 minutes calling to Korea (cuz everyone uses a friggin cell phone there)

I wonder if it is cheap calling to UK

Well, what you do is you go to the google.com/voice website from a computer (or your iphone/smartphone)and tell it to dial the number. It will call you on ur cell, connect you and chat away.

3 cents per min cell to cell for me, calling to malaysia.

Unlimited calling to a ton of countries for the cost of your landline or cellphone + 100 bucks a year. I had a gf in thailand so I can tell you it works. No calling card needed and all you do is just dial a phone number and their phone rings.
