Jonathan, could you clarify what you mean by "scrambled" phone book?

Sure, one of two things.

1.) The phone book was not in normal (alpha) order and possibly some names were missing
2.) Entries were scrambled, pieces of one name attached to another, rendering it indecipherable (but funny)

It happened to me once out of maybe 200 or 300 times. The software version was whatever was used for a late Sept 2005 production build. I use a Motorola E815 phone. I had my software upgraded to the latest (whatever that is) last week.

I am testing somewhere upwards of 25 mobiles here for compatibility.

TWO have made scrambled eggs out of the phonebook.

Several have failed completely.

It's amazing how broadly some mobile device manufacturers have interpreted the Bluetooth profiles needed for this to work, but then again, that's why I decided to play around with this in the first place.

well, on the one hand, ja, but on the other, it can make life complicated (my own phone wouldn't pair; I had left another tester in the car which kept pairing first... )

I am beginning to appreciate why BMW is as slow as it is in releasing lists of fully compatible mobiles

Thanks. I've had issues with #1 but not #2. I have PROGMAN 20.1, I believe. I have a Treo 700W and a Motorola V710. The names seem to come across on the first sync up, but after that no changes or new names added will move across. Unless I hard reset the phones, re-build them and then sync them up as "new" phones, I'm stuck with whatever goes on the first attempt.

The other main issue is the number (or name) that appears on the radio when a call comes in is always the number that called before that one. Example: If I get a call from 515-111-1111, talk and hang up and then 5 minutes later I get a call from 515-111-1112, 515-111-1111 is the number that will appear. That happens not only with both phones, but in the E90 and my M3.

I have heard of this happening on Palms but not on Motos. I'm not testing the V710 since it's not even close to current and had a lot of problems with Bluetooth in early interations (enough problems that there was a class action lawsuit against Verizon for a while, for which I was supposed to be an expert witness if it had gone to trial).

It's weird, each phone works better in one then the car. The V710 works pretty good in the E90 but it stinks in the M3 (half the time it either won't connect or will connect but can't dial out). I had alot of trouble with the Treo in the E90 but it's better in the M3.

We're doing more testing and speaking to the mfr. so I don't want to prematurely bash a mfr. (and both mobiles came from one mfr.)

I'm not surprised; two totally different telematics units here.

JSpira here is a list ( its in German, but im shure you can figure it out) giving the latest compatibilities between phones, their software versions and car build dates

http://www.bmw.com/generic/de/de/pro...ble_handys.pdf

The scrambling problem was with some cars when upgrading to Progman 22.0

Danke, Fleet, I did have this but the problem is that the telematics units are different not to mention that the phones available in the U.S. are different (there is very little overlap as many manufacturers make region specific mobiles).

A mobile that works perfectly with a BMW in Germany might not work at all with a U.S. car.

Also, that list has almost as many phones no longer in manufacture as BMW NA's list.

mine reads the names differently if the phone's on vibrate or normal mode

on vibrate it adds an asterisk after the name, but it's still very readable
