yesterday morning i went to clear my wind screen and all i could hear was the noise of the jets so i naturally filled them up and tryed again but still no water, but a big puddle on the floor.

so i lifted the bonnet up and all i could get to was a little section piping, which was all attached. so i rang BMW asked them how it could be fixed or how much it would cost them to do it, as its only a little job.

on the phone the guy turned around and replied..... you have to take the wheel off and the inside arch lining to get to the water bottle and that will be 115 quid :|.. total shock.

Anyone had this problem, any easy way of sorting it? or is this going to be a sunday morning job?

I also have an odd problem with the washer bottle.
I fill it up, and it must have a leak, because it says its low after not too many times of using it.
Also if i keep filling it, the water comes out the drives side sill, This normal?

thats not normal lol..... dont know why its coimg out your door sill... you must have a leak in the pipe or the pipe is half connected some where, thats all i can think of.

My sister has a 1-series and recently had the same problem. Found out the water-pipes to the jets had a tiny fissure in it due to the major frost that happened over the past month or so and that's where the leak developed!..worth having a closer look for any hairline cracks?!

had the same issue!!!!....took it to Birds, much cheaper than the bmw dealers!

Yes, BMW designed it like that.

You must have a leak,

There's lots of threads on this, but basically the BMW design is not too good and the bottom of the washer bottle gets gunked up by using cheap shite blue washer fluid.

If you can hear the pumps running you have a blockage, and you will need to get the wheel off etc.

Some people reccomended putting a calgon washing machine cleaner pellet in the bottle, give it a while then run your washer jets until its empty.

If you have a leak, then it sounds like a pipe has split of come loose.

Also if the liquid freezes, it can split pipes or push them apart.

I have similar issue. I got the alert that my washer fluid is low.

So i topped up and noticed the water level didn't rise to the top and started leaking from the front drivers side bumper area.

The car was in with the dealers and the technician ordered a telescope washer, a common fault. Thats why it was on a back order of 4-6 weeks so i haven't got my part yet. Could be due to the extreme winter we had that this part developed a fault.

But the front bumper needs to come off to fit this part.

c u got it done then. how much did they charge and how long did it take. did they actually take the wheel off and clean the bottle or just blow out the pipes?

I did this job myself 2 weeks ago. It was an absolute bugger.

The inner section of the wheel arch is a nightmare to remove. The pump on mine was clogged with greenish black slime but as I later realised this was only part of the problem. It turned out that the hose wasn't actually connected to the washer jets You can get access to these on the E90 (and probably all other E9x's) by removing the black plastic panel under the bonnet that covers the scuttle panel area. It's only held on by 4 10mm bolts so it takes minutes to remove and refit.

My wifes 1 series has just had the same problem and I removed this panel and blew through the pipe to clear the blockage. Seems to have worked a treat and even if the fix only lasts a month it's still better than the 3 hours i spent receiving multiple lacerations courtesy of my arch liner.

Stop using shite washer fluid!

You know the £2.99 for 5 litres blue stuff from garages, unfortunately the BMW bottle gets bunged up with sludge from this crap.

I gather the Halfords premium stuff is fine, but BMW will tell you you should use the clear BMW stuff (£3 for 1 litre) as that is the only approved stuff.

On my last E90, they fixed mine 4 times under warranty when I pestered (stopped using blue stuff after the first time, but they didn't fix it properly for 4 further visits), but said if it happened again and there was any tell tale blue sludge it would cost me £120 to fix it.

I would argue that it's BMW's design that's shite, not the washer fluid.

Surely it has far more to do with the water ie hard or sft The water here is relatively soft and I have never had this problem. I always use additive though it is just the Halfords stuff.

Good point. There is no limescale where I live and I've never had an issue.

Maybe the BMW kit includes a scale inhibitor?

I generally don't bother putting anything but water in my washer bottle as water has seemed good enough to clear the screen on every car i've owned. Limescale is as rare as a £2 note up here so it's not the water. In saying all that, I just got the car so I can't vouch for whatever the previous owner was putting in the washer bottle. I would however agree with NFS in saying that the design is shite. If you've ever taken it apart and seen the filter on the pump it's clear that the holes are too small and there's not enough of them.

I have to admit I too believe the design is possibly on the poor side tbh.

Where I live it is VERY hard water admittedly but I have used the same washer fluid products in 4 different marques and unfortuately my old E90 has been the only one to suffer with this problem but luckily Steve managed to sort it for me.
