Mazda 3 - can they be tuned

With the nice weather now it's seems like a lot of Mazada 3s (not the mazdaspeed version) are trying to race me. I don't "street race" but was wondering if the regular 3s can be tuned up to beat a stock 335.

A Mazda 3 is a 4-cylinder car. It would get smoked by a stock 328i, let alone a 335.

+1. My gf has one, and it's VERY sluggish compared to my 325i.

In defense of Mazda, it is a tad bit quicker than a Civic.

I guess they figured a 3 racing against a 3 is a fair game...

My Road and Track stats tell me that Mazda 3 2.5 litre does 0-60 in 7.1 and 335i does it in 5.1! .1 seconds better in 0-60 race is about a car length and a half ahead. So I would have to say no, a mazda 3 has no chance even if modified.

Yup and here is how to do it.

go to this thread
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=361775

and find the guy with the poo bags. Next time a Mazda rolls up on you, just toss a poo bag on his windshield. The Mazda driver will be in shock as he realizes that you took the term "shitted on him" to a whole new level.

I knew stock vs stock they are no match, but I was starting think that there must be some tunes and bolts ons that might make it a race.
It's just funny the crap people will do to get you to go. I think there was a post not long ago about that.

Just as a response to this... yes they can be tuned as I have a tuned 2006 Mazda 3. And just for the record ... depending on what you do to it, it can smoke the BMW 335. I brought it to the dyno, changed the exhaust, added a high performance intake, and a turbo. She now pumps out an even 300hp.

Just for the record, I have driven the BMW and they are not that great for what you pay for. Yeah it's a BMW but that's about it. I dunno to me ... not worth it!!

Just the other day i've smoked a Mazda3 modified ... and I was in REVERSE !!!

Iwas once a mechanic for Mazda.
You won't have an output of 300 HP with just the turbo, intake and exhaust.
You'd need serious modification and strenghtening inside the engine.

Did your turbo came out of a Mack truck !!!

Yeah and then the engine explodes. The Mazda 3 engine cannot handle that much HP. My mom has a 09 Mazda 3, the car will blow past a Civic, Sentra, and Corolla but that's about it.

Even in limp mode the 335i would smoke your ass. The 335i vs Mazda 3 would belike Ben Johnson (on steroids of course) vs the "Special" Olympians. Even with a broken leg he'd still win.

300hp on a 4 cylinder!
Nice try buddy.

I have a Honda Civic Type R. I brought it to the dyno, changed the exhaust,
added a high performance intake, and a turbo. She now pumps out an even 600hp.

it's not worth the gas, mileage or the time to race them..

2 different levels of cars I would say..

but Mazda 3 are respectable cars.. I've seen nicely tuned ones too..
