Rattling from engine when letting off throttle

Lately been noticing some strange rattling when revving the engine and releasing the throttle while in neutral. It only happens when releasing the throttle never while applying it. I popped the hood and it definitely seems to be coming from the engine. Any ideas as to what this could be and if it's a problem?

Thanks

Yeah, I guess I'll be making a trip to the dealer this week. What is the normal coarse of action with this issue? I had read that they first try a software update, is that right? My car is a 4/07 production I believe so it's software is probably quite old. Any danger in losing performance with the latest software out now. I know that was a big source of complaints earlier own.

I've got to make a list of everything I'm going to complain to service advisor about lol. I'm also getting the squeel when starting from stop without brakes
being applied. Also have an issue with passenger weather seal that I only discovered by taking the car up to 140mph. Finally I have the issue with driver side mirror moving to random positions. Luckily all of these issues seem to have been documented pretty well so hopefully they don't give me any trouble.

Thanks for help all

Update:
Car is still at the dealer. Went from updating software to replacing both wastegates now they think both turbos need replacing. Just waiting on authorization from BMW NA for them.

I guess that is a good thing right, new turbos? I assume it should drive good.

Yep. Went through exactly the same thing you did-my dealer went through all the steps until finally they replaced both turbos. And yes, it's nice to have new turbos!

Took them 2 days to convince BMW NA it was necessary. They said they kept requesting more test data. Hopefully I'll have it back by Wednesday. That will be 1 week total.

Yes always stock. I'm the second owner of this car but previous owner wasn't even aware of tuning mods for this car so it has been stock for the 20k miles it has on it.

This is actually the second 335i I've owned. I have a JB2 from my old 335i that I'm planning to put into this car though. Anyone think it would matter if I put the JB2 in immediately or should I give the new turbos a while before putting in the JB2?

Would love to have a JB3 but I bought the JB2 when they were $380 so don't really want to drop anymore money into tunes. Was gonna just install the JB2 and be happy with that. Maybe a BMS intake at some point.
Was definitely gonna make sure it's running fine but I was wondering are there any technical reasons as to why I should or shouldn't wait to put a tune on new turbos. Maybe someone that knows will chime in.

I guess the fun never ends. They got the turbos installed and during the test drive a coolant line to one of the turbos began leaking. Of course they didn't have that part in stock so now I'm waiting till tomorrow for car. Seems like murphy's law in action here.

I thought the turbos were oil cooled. They SA said they are cooled by the coolant system.
