Clear Bra

Well I am getting my first BMW I did a write up on my ED experience in the New Car Ordering section. I am thinking about geting a clear bra.

1. When the car fades does it fade evenly. I have a Graphite 328i.

2. I have heard they turn yellow over time. Is this the case with 3m?

3. Can it be removed?

Any other recommendations other then 3m?

Here are some pic's form Munich.

Thank You,

James

1. it will discolor evenly.

2. all films (regardless of manufacture) will yellow over time... but hardly noticeable on graphite (white is the worst).

3. it can be removed with no side affects beneath to the paint surface (no paint fading etc.).

3M is the best film on the market imo.

i prefer xpel (3M) pre-cut films. also don't forget to add the headlamp protection film.

3 M Clear Bra is the way to go. It protected our new car from a piece of flying truck tire. No marks, dings etc.

I have the Avery bra on the hood, bumper and mirrors and it has saved my front end. Also, I have the X-Pel protectors on the headlights and foglights.

If you take care of the film the same way you take care of your paint they will fade evenly. I have had 3M film on a vehicle for 4 years and noticed no yellowing at all but it was garaged a lot.

I have 3M on my vette and I just had the new Venture film put on the 335. Check it out: http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum...d.php?t=636204

The key to the film is the installer. Make sure you get someone that knows what they are doing.

I would go with Venture or 3M film. Both have precut kits and Venture has OEM kits for BMW's.

also another thing to look for is: a clear coat on top of the film (shiny like the cars finish...like 3M does).

some films on the market have a very dull finish to them (doesn't look so hot).

see link for my cars clear bra: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...highlight=xpel

Hello James.
There are many different types of films on the market. Some do turn yellow and cloudy more quickly than others. In 6.5 years of business the films that I have seen turn yellow and cloudy quickly (around 1 year) are the non top coat films, such as Avery's, Llumar and Venture non-top coat films.

90% of the time in FL, I always recommend a Top coat film such as 3M, ClearShield, and now the new Venture top coat film. Top coated films require less waxing etc and keep dust, oils, and LOVE bugs from embedding into the film.

Even the top coated films can eventually turn yellow, but is a lot less common than non top coated films. However, if you keep your car clean, waxed and garaged kept the likely of a top coat film turning colors is VERY VERY Slim.....

At any rate, all films do a great job protecting the car some more than others, but that is another topic. There are also many different type of design companies. The one you guys want and would recommend would be XPel. Xpel is the OE pattern for BMW and trust me it is the best fitting design. Unless you want to go custom.

As mentioned above, the main key to a clear bra is the installer. A great installer in most cases can install a kit without having any stretch marks, strawberries, ripples, bubbles etc shown. Also make sure the installer warranties all work, then if the film goes bad, no worries for you.

Thanks
