Ding Shield. . .

Originally posted in the wrong thread. . .

I was one of those saps that purchased the Ding Shield protection from the dealer when I bought my car last year. . . Thought it was a good option considering how many times I’ve seen with minor ‘parking lot’ dents and scratches on beautiful cars. . . Recently I was a victim of such and called on Ding Shield for assistance, the assistance that I paid for. . . I was immediately told that if the dent was in association with paint removal that they could not perform the service that I was requesting. . . Irritating to say that least. . . They scheduled a consult, yet I was told by the young lady on the phone that it was doubtful that the inspectors would be able to assist me. . .

bummer, if nothing could be done, i tried and buff it out with some Quixx scratch remover to get some of the scratches out and just try to avoid looking at it

I too purchased (probably stupid idea) the so-called Door Ding repair. Mine is called "CertifiedPlus"... not sure if that is a company name, etc.

Sorry about your ding but can you elaborate on what you requested when you state: "I was immediately told that if the dent was in association with paint removal that they could not perform the service that I was requesting."

In all fairness I'm sure your request was totally reasonable and you just want the ding fixed!!

The reason I ask is that according to my contract "Door Ding repair is limited to exterior vehicle painted sheet metal body parts. Dents in excess of 4", collision damage, hail and environmental damage is excluded under this agreement."

Nothing in the contract around paint removal...

Now obviously your door is scratched perhaps below the clearcoat. Are you saying that they wouldn't repair just the dent? Or did you want them to re-spray as well?

I'm guessing they are afraid that if the paint was cracked that removing the dent may further stress the paint possibly causing further damage even if the ding was repaired.

Seems to be a trend lately. What people purchase as "ding shield" tends to be PDR (paintless dent removal) and nothing more. They seem to refuse to fix any paint imperfections.

I feel your pain on that ding...I don't think they'll fix the paint but if they can take out the ding at least your're half way to getting it fixed.

For future reference; I'm not sure how much you paid for your 'Ding Shield" but I've had the PDR guy here at my house twice over the years.

He charged 90$ for the first ding and 20$ for every ding after that. The second time he came (to fix my dents) my mother in law brough her Civic over and he fixed her dings at the same time.

In case you cared, KC

It was a phone consult, I have not been in for an actual appraisal. . . When I described to the young lady on the phone what the dent looked like to me, she was hesitant about referring the issue to a local vender who would then appraise the dent and fix accordingly (if at all). . . I told her that I paid for the service and would appreciate getting the benefit of the doubt (and some of my $ worth) by having a local shop contacted and the dent at least looked at for them to make that assessment. . . I was contacted yesterday by a local shop, Keith's Dent Repair, and will have to take my car to them for assessment. . .

Yes, upon further analysis of the actual terms of the 'ding protection plan' or whatever the official name is, it is only a PDR warranty. . . I paid too much for it and know better now. . .

Photos of Correction. . .

Below are pictures of the best correction that a local PDR shop could do for my car. . . Now I know why and will also park my car in locations that will limit scratches, dings and dents. . . Yes, I know that there are those jerks out there that will still hate and attempt to cause damage. . .
