Hi,
I'm interested in this as well (I'll need a bigger car soon!) so I spoke to my dealer. As usual they don't like giving away much but I have gleaned this much:

The awesome 3.0 L Diesel will NOT be offered first (even though it's likely to come in under the 7L/100km mark so has a higher LCT threshold and therfore cheaper). The petrol 528, 535 and 550 will be offered first. And the prices (NOT incl. on road costs but incl. GST and LCT) are approx 100k, 129k and 179k. Of course the standard options may change and thus the price, before release date which is midway through this year. At least its a ball park figure for us.

I'd buy the big diesel in a heartbeat but now I have to pause and think since it's not coming out first- BMW gouging their customers as usual- bad strategy if you ask me.

Hope this helps...

Nice input there.

I reckon 528i wont be available in australia, i would say 525i, 535i and 550i.

what about the diesel one ? 520d, 525d and 530d ? im thinking 525d will be nice choice.
I'm afraid self parking and night vision could be an options

I really like the new 5 series GT, coupled with a twin turbo V8 would be an awesome family car.

^^ Yeh. What he said! +100

I'm not really that keen on active sway bars, electric power steer, 4WS and the energy recovery system. I wish BMW would go back to building cars.

At least they got the 5 series styling right this time. I love the look of it.

There is one of these at the bruce lynton show room on the gold coast. It looks like an abomination.
New 5 series launches in june/july i was told.

On another note the x1 was launched on the weekend and that is going to be a big winner.

I know a friend who is about to place an order on a 535i. The price drive away was $143000 which i m guessing includes metalic and professional package.

That's a relative bargain IMHO (esp if he intends to Chip it!)

$14300 is the listed drive away price from stealership. Not sure how she went with negotiation. Probabaly a bit hard to get a nice discount since it is a brand new model.

Apparenty, only the 520d is available for now.

Yes, I agree with the X1. A fair amount of people were at the dealership that I went to on Sunday purely just looking at the X1 and test driving it. I would say both exterior and interior looks much better in person than from the pictures we are seeing.

That's really a pity, only the 520d will be avaliable when the 5 series launch in Aus.

I reckon the X1 looks better in real life, but when I had a look at it, it doesn't have any more room inside than the 320 wagon.
I can't really see the point of all these X wagons. (Did anyone see top gear tonight and the X6 test?)
I love the look of the X5 and think that it makes sense if you have to tow or take 7 people or need the room. But the X3 and X1 aren't any better than a wagon.

I dont get the need for the X3. Its ugly and weird. But x5 and x1 have their clear goals.
X5 = full size suv
X1 = small suv to compete with other small suvs like the rav4

Lots of women love small suvs and might go a x1 over a 3 series. My gf is in love with the X1 - hoping maybe next year we will be able to get her one.
I really dont like wagons at all so i would never go for a 3 series wagon, but then again i would never need that much space, i drive a 2 seater car and its all sweet :P

Sorry for going abit off topic here.

I hope BMW make their new F series X5 a proper 7 seater when it comes for a full model change. Now that they have x1, they can probably make the X3 slightly bigger to fit between the X1 and X5.

I'll be in the market again in a few year when my E53 is due for replacement and to be honest im seriously conisdering to change over to the dark side with Mercedes GL or Audi Q7 which are proper 7 seaters. Current E70 is still a bit small for what i need.

Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go available. The feature allows the driver to set the speed and have the vehicle automatically slow down and speed up depending on traffic.

Is that means, we dont have to worry about brake or acceleration? interesting the feature auto adjust the brake and accel ?

535i for 143k, way offer my budget. looks like the best gonna be 520d ?

530d should be cheaper than 535 coz of the lower LCT level but I'm sure BMW will find a way to make it more expensive...

No words on 530d coming to Oz atm.

@MrBBQwer: Yes, and I read that the active cruise control disengages when you are sitting in traffic for more than 3 secs.

I called up my previous salesman who sold me E93 325i , was asking him about 520d drive away price standard, he told me about 90aud ( sounds interesting for me ). those price I havent negotiate anything yet, the new 5 series will arrive next month which im going to see it.
for sure those 520d I would love to add more optional features.

my concern is , comparing this 520d to my current car, in term of fuel consumptions: Does the 520d consuming less than my 325i e93 ? ( every 2 weeks, It cost me about 80aud for full tank 60liter, with about 350kms )

any input please.

thanks in advance

NB: The salesman also said the diesel will go in production on June, july and august. so I assume next month showroom car will be petrol I reckon.

Let me get this straight - you are going to spend $90,000 on a car which does 175Klms a week and your "concern" is fuel consumption?

Your weekly fuel saving probably wouldn't buy you a cup of coffee.
