Tire replacement warranty....is it worth it?
I plunked down $796 for a tire replacement warranty. The warranty cover tire and rim replacement damage for 5 years or $4,000. I figure the replacement cost of one RFT and rim alone will amount to more than the warranty. At least this way I will have peace of mind knowing that should I ever have a flat or damage my rims in anyway it will be cover under warranty for the next 5 years. What you all think, did I make a wise enough decision?

I bought the same thing (although for less money). Like any insurance, it turns out to be a wise decision if you end up using it. If not, who knows ...

What happens to the warranty when you have to replace the tires because they are worn out?

Warranty $$
Wow .. warranty prices quoted from $295 to $795 for the same protection.
My Dallas dealer wanted $599, came down to $499 but I still pasted. I was also told that I had to purchase it when the car was purchased. Not available later. I will keep my fingers crossed I don't hit anything. Topsouls, who was your dealer? I would like to talk to then about a warranty purchase for my aftermarkets. Thanks |

Put it this way, I sell road hazard coverage, and I bought it myself. They have paid out ove $16000 in claims so far through July just in our service dept.! It's worth it, believe me. I think over $700 is a little high as well, but it usually pays fo itself. As for what happens when the tires wear out, it should cover subsequent tires too. Ours does.

I don't know if you can get it after purchasing your car, but I'm sure you can find a 3rd party program elsewhere. |

the price is re god damn diculus
800 bucks for the warranty a wheel is only about 300 from a site on another thread (new BMW factory) tires are $250 each. you'll have to get MULTIPLE wheels or unfixable tire damage to make that even close to worth it. if you damage 3 wheels and get your tires slashed 4 times then it was a good deal. Do you have lots of ex girlfriends that hate you? |

i paid 500bux and i figure it's peace of mind at least. it covers tires and the wheels, so if i end up with a screwed up wheel from road damange its worth it. roads around here are crap also. potholes galore during the winter
when you just dropped 43k on a car, what's another 500 for tire insurance? |

Tire insurance is as bad of an investment as in Gap Insurance, Extended Warranty, and LoJack.
All these extras that the dealers are throwing at you is how they make extra $$$$ above Invoice...... Just say NO!

$275 for the 5 years. One tire more than covers it. With all the construction here in AZ, I get a flat at least every 2 years.

The seller's data says you will statistically lose on this type of insurance. Of course, otherwise they wouldn't sell it. It's profitable. This type of coverage is usually expensive on an actuarial basis. I've driven for 26 years and ruined exactly zero wheels. I've had one tire damaged enough to require replacement.
You could "win" with this if you're unlucky, but the odds say you won't. If $800 for a wheel/tire would bust one's budget, they might consider a more economical ride. |

$399 up here at my dealer and from what horror stories I hear its worth it... and heres a cool story for you... as to how QUICK you may need your insurance... I currently drive a 97 Toyota Corolla and I was heading home from the dealer yesterday and as soon as I got onto the turnpike I GOT A FLAT TIRE! right after I was talking about tire insurance with him... would you believe it? I was SO pissed but it was only $45 I got the cheapest tire cause I knew I was getting rid of my old car soon... SO all in all i am getting the tire insurance for the BMW

Its actually worth it most likely unless you live in an area with perfect roads. At least for those of us with the sport package on our 330's.
Two flat tires on these run-flats and the policy has already paid for itself. Not to mention any cracks or dents in those big wheels. You did pay a pretty high price though. I paid $500 for the same coverage you got. I did negotiate it down because I knew someone on bimmerfest had gotten it for 4 years at $400. My buddy has a Volvo V70R he just picked up a couple months ago and he got a nail in the sidewall of his tire a couple of days ago and is already taking advantage of the policy.

__________________________________________________ _ While I seldom purchase extended warranties for the reasons noted by Longtran, I don't consider the offer of such warranties a scam by any stretch of imagination. I have never heard of an instance wherein a F and I person at a car dealership forced an individual to buy such warranty or tinted windows or 'paint protection' or whatever! |

I do not understand logic of paying $400.00-$800.00 for tire insurance.
Odds are you will never use it or most people will never use it? I went ahead & bought 1 runflat + 1 snow tire cost me $400.00. I will keep them in my garage not car & if needed? I'll get to them. Now if I go long distance "out of state" put 1 tire in trunk. This way if I get a flat? no concern store won't have in stock or try to charge me top $. I just go to the trunk & have them mount it. Now if I never get a flat? 2 years later when time to put 4 new tires on my car. I'm ahead of the game as I already have 1 new tire. I will just take one of my used tires (best one) and use it as spare. |

The tire insurance only replace your tires when they are unnaturally torn apart due to road hazard.....how often is that? Paying $8 insurance to replace a tire due to road hazard is still
a ripoff at Pep Boys! Why pay $500-$800......it just doesn't make any sense! If you have quality tires on your BMW...why worry?
