When I go to the Dealer and Order...

When I am ready to get my 335i (most likely next year), and I go to my local Dealer, and I say: "Here is what color I want, what features, and 2dr or 4dr...etc), and he says that they dont have one in the entire north America...Is this considered an European Delivery???
I am confused, because when I went to my local dealer a few weeks ago, and he said that they will have to order one, because they dont have the combination that I want...I forgot to ask him if this is concidered an ED, or not....

I also, I am confused with the ED: Do I have to go to Germany if I decide to do the ED, or I have the option to stay here, and not take any vacation days from work, and lose money.

Thank you!

Nope. ED is when you fly to Germany and pick your car up yourself.

Ordering is ordering...i.e. outfitting your car to your liking and having it built to your specs

ED is one of 4 exciting delivery options you can choose:

1) Traditional Delivery: i.e. taking delivery at the dealership...the usual boring way

2) Performance Center Delivery: You pick up your car at BMW's awesome performance center in South Carolina. BMW foots 1 night hotel, food, driver training, special delivery etc. You drive the car home from there. This is at no extra cost (destination fees pays for this)

3) Euro Delivery: You pick you car up in Munich, have fun in europe (car includes insurance, road tax, euro tags). When you're done, drop the car off at convenient destinations and it gets shipped back (shipping, insurance etc included). Wait up to 2 months and take re-delivery at your dealership as per traditional delivery. ED pricing is cheaper but the overall wait is longer.

4) courtesy delivery: When you take delivery of a car sent over from another dealership (intown, instate, out of state etc.) There is usually a fee associated with this.

Thanks a lot!!! So, basically if I dont want to go to Germany, the best option is #2 (Performance Center Delivery)?
Is this option going to cost me as much as when the dealer orders it, and will it affect my price negotiation?

Thanks!

No the best (normal) option is #1, regular delivery. You order your car with exactly all the specs you want. If they do not have one on the lot (or the entire USA), they will get it built in Germany and then you wait till it's built and delivered to your dealer.

No need for you to go to Germany or the delivery center.

HOWEVER, option #2 is "the next best thing" to a Euro Delivery. You get a free hotel night, and max you'd be taking 1 day off from work, and you get to drive BMWs and learn how to drive them properly.

Check out these links for more info:
Performance Center Delivery: http://www.bmwusa.com/bmwexperience/...enter/delivery
European Delivery: http://www.bmwusa.com/bmwexperience/europeandelivery/

*edit: to clarify further, with option #2 there are no extra fees. It is covered by the $695 delivery fee as KL2DC mentioned. Same situation: you order your car, but instead of it being delivered directly to your dealer you go to the Performance Center in South Carolina, get your free lesson etc., then pick your car up there and drive it back home (road trip!)... OR you can arrange for them to deliver it to your dealer, but this would cost extra (ask your dealer).

Well adding onto ninjaneer's postings....PCD does not cost more nor does it affect your price negotiations. Keep in mind this is only for factory order. Your car is built and sent to the Center. Your destination fee covers the perks and then some. The only additional costs associated with this is getting there and gas for the trip home.

Yet more info on PCD...

Ninjaneer, So it is included in the price of the car for me to drive other BMWs on a track? NICE!
But if I go with that option, will it minimize my chances of negotiating the price down?
Thanks

On the contrary...since you're taking delivery in S Carolina it doesn't matter an iota where your dealer is located i.e. he could be in california but you take delivery in S Carolina and drive your car home all the same. Basically you have access to the entire dealership network, so feel free to shoot email enquiries.

edit: I see you're in GA, its a no brainer then....

Should have no effect on your negotiations at all.

In fact, you could order your car (as KL2DC mentioned, you can only do PCD for factory ordered cars, not ones off the lot be they used or new) and while you're waiting for it to be delivered, you could call your CA up and tell him/her that you've decided to do PCD, and they'll set you up. But be sure to make your mind up in advance... like 1.5-2 months before your car gets built. Once it is built and about to get delivered I think it's too late to opt for PCD.

Do a search on PCD on the forum, lots of experiences to read up on.

They can change your order/build from P-1 (customer ordered) to P-9 (PCD) within Status 15x...that's about the latest I believe. Basically a short time before your car gets loaded on the boat. Also you'd need to take care of paperwork/finance 2 weeks before pickup date. Plus they need minimum 2 weeks from touchdown to set up your delivery date.

it really doesn't make a difference to them...there is no extra cost or loss of extra revenue from PCD.

probably better to keep separate...if CA new you REALLY wanted something he/she could use it as leverage. I know I would

I thought that with Performance Center Delivery - You pick up your car at BMW's awesome performance center in South Carolina. BMW foots 1 night hotel, food, driver training, special delivery etc. You drive the car home from there.
Will they give me their car on the driver training or I will have to drive the one that I ordered...that btw wont be broken in yet?
Will they let me drive on a closed course at all? or is it only a theory training?

bronco...check out all the links we gave you...all details are there.

You drive their cars on the course. You take delivery of your car at the end of the day and drive home.

We had a baby due 1 week after delivery of my car, or otherwise I would have done PCD. I really wanted to do it. If you live on the East Coast and can take a couple of days off work, IMO it's a no-brainer!

Next BMW, I'll either do PCD or Euro delivery for sure.

You use their cars. You pick your car up in the end, you don't use it for the training, so it's all good.

You get to drive on their course, there's a skid pad where you get to experience with traction control on/off, slalom...

I kind of regret not doing it myself but timing wasn't right for me.

Search!!!

Yep, that's standard once you get your order in your CA should be able to provide you with a production number. From there you can follow the steps outlined in the sticky in this forum for the Ultimate Tracking Guide.
