I Took Out My Meth
Just kidding.
But I wanted it to look like I did. When I initially installed it, I was going for a low profile install but I was having a hard time finding a place to put the pump. I came up with a good place initially but the pump was very visible. After I installed everything I saw a thread where someone put the pump behind the main bumper, so I wanted to try that. It's funny though because the Active Autowerke IC is so fricken big that I couldn't put it in the same spot as the other person so luckily I found the place where the passenger's side horn went. I relocated the horn over just a little and mounted the pump on the piller of the main bumper. I also moved the solenoid under the shroud, so the only thing that I need to do is take the shroud off to adjust the values but when do you really need to do that? The meth is still located in the windshield wiper fluid container. This is the thread for those who haven't seen it: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...highlight=snow The first pic is when I first installed it. The second is what it looks like now. You can see the pump peeking out of the 3rd pic and in order to see this, You need to be on your knees looking in and up the duct. BTW, I know, I know...I need a new bumper! All of the freeway drving has sandblasted my bumper.

Whoa. I've never seen a bumper being blasted like that before. And I was complaining about my rock chips... Wouldn't a clear bra help?
I really like how are hiding your mods and keeping the engine bay clean looking. |

This is great. When I add Meth, I want to do the exact same thing. I also have the AA IC, and I first heard of installing meth this way from my shop here in Cincy (as opposed to running it from the trunk). I am so glad someone on here has done this so I didn't have to be the first...it looks great, you did an awesome job!!!! I wish the people who are buoliding the meth sysems would make this a kit/option install and have all of the parts for this install method figured out.
I hope you love it!!! Maybe a DIY for us who go back and do it later...Thanks Mr.5!!!

so when you say your wiper washer fluid is now meth, did you disable the ability to spray it onto your windshield? last thing you want is idiot mechanics at the dealer spraying meth onto your windshield

a 50/50 mix of meth/water is basically windshield washer fluid anyway...

Good job Mr. 5. I'm with you on the whole windshield thing. I don't have an oil cooler, so I've been considering hoping for some sort of aftermarket oil cooler located in a different location like near the FMIC and putting a safe 50/50 mix methanol tank in that spot. A typical meth tank would fit there, and it would be easy to run a fill hose up back behind the headlight much like the stock windshield fill tube.

That's a lot of work. Why not install in trunk?

How is that a lot of work? Doing all the drilling and running of lines and then killing you're trunk space is a lot of work and a waste of a portion of your trunk, not to mention it looks half baked IMO in the trunk.
This is a thread about the meth pump location and mounting the meth pump in the rear of the car with the meth in the windshield washer tank wouldn't make sense and likely wouldn't prime or function properly. |

I see.
Any advantage of having it in closer to engine bay than in the trunk, other than trunk space?

It depends on where you locate everything. But optimally, less wiring through the inside or underside of your car, less hose required, and completely stealth. The pump doesn't have to push as hard, and the shorter your lines, the quicker your nozzles will start spraying. Plus, with the windshield washer tank, you get a built in iDrive chime when your meth is low and a light on your dash.

mr5, do you have any bogging/bucking in between shifts? I know you don't have a jb3 but was wondering if the fact meth doesn't spray in between shifts causes the car to buck due to lack of octane.

Thanks for all of the comments guys.
I'm really happy with this install. Quote:
The trucks drop a lot of crap which gets blown up by all the cars that are passing by. Quote:
It actually was a lot fo work because it's very tedious. There's something about having a bottle of meth in the trunk behind my daughter that just bugs me. The winshield fluid container is the perfect container to use since it already has a low fluid indicator and it's hidden in the wheel well. When the chime and light comes on, I take it easy but I still have about 1/3 of a gallon left. Quote:
If I'm off the throttle then of course it will stop spraying. I can easily drive anywhere without activating meth. All I have to do is stay under 5 psi.

What's that goofy hose you have running to your intake?..lol. J/K, looks great. I also see you've upgraded dv's since the earlier pic. I think I'll go this way when I go to meth. My FMIC isn't so large (ETS) so I'll probably be able to find a place behind the bumper but who knows since I have a 135. Btw, thanks for all your informative posting!

I use the same wire that the procede uses for power for the red wire.
The green wire goes to the pump.
