oil cooler or something else running after engine shutoff?

i hear what sounds like something running under the hood after i shut the car off. It lasts anywhere from 1min to a few but only sometimes. Is this the factory oil cooler or something else?
Thx

Its coolant running through the intercooler and turbos to prevent coaking. It only does this if you recently boosted before you shut your car off. It is wise to let the car idle down a few minutes before shutting it off, but not neccessary with this new technology we have on these cars.

think of it as built in turbo timers without leaving the car running

actually... our intercoolers are not water cooled... as for the turbo's, im not sure... but i do know it is the electric water pump circulation after the car is off... to help cool down all the bits which are cooled by the water/coolant...

I hate to bump an old thread but I thought this one is relevant to my question--

I used to hear this noise frequently when I took delivery of my 2010 but since updating the DME for an unrelated service issue, I no longer hear any hint that the water pump is running after vehicle shutoff, even in 100+ degree temps.

Is there some way to verify if/when the water pump runs after shutdown and if this feature was deactivated by a newer engine management revision?

Use a BT cable and look at the actual values for the water pump. Go for a drive and get the engine warm. Then just after shutting it down look at the RPMs for the waterpump. It should go up when the pump is running.

Its not meant to work EVERY time you turn off the engine. If you've been driving car smoothly , its likely not needed for the pump to work after engine shutdown.

Its also possible not to hear that due to enviromental noise...

If i was you , I would push the car a few times the next time before turning the engine off. This would ensure you if it works or not.

Its your water pump....could also be a sign of a water pump going bad, ive replaced 2 already and it started by running while the car was off for longer periods of time than normal..ends up drainging the batter...it also took out my steering column and CAS module.
