Need help/advice on replacing rims/tires with different sizes on E92 335i (Miro 942)
So I just learned that the cause of a slight highway vibration I've been getting is that I have 3 bent rims that have all occured within the last year. Instead of dropping $750 ($250x3) on fixing the three style 189 rims, I was looking into getting a new set of Miro 942 wheels and moving my existing tires (still 95% tread left) onto the new rims.
My first question is, since the stock rims are 8" up front and 8.5" in back, am I better off getting the staggered set on the new rims, 8.5" up front and 9.5" in the back, or just getting 8.5" all around so that my existing tires will fit better on the new rims? My tires are currently Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetrics in 225/40/18 up front and 255/35/18 in the back. I was also thinking of putting some all-season tires on the old rims (even with 3 being bent) to use as winter tires so I have a bit better traction as well as not having to worry about beating up the new rims during the winter/pothole season. Would I be able to do this without the TMPS system that I'd have to move over to the new rims? I'd probably try to get all the same size tire so that I can keep the cost down a bit so would 225/40/18's work on both the 8" front and 8.5" rear stock wheels? I believe it would and would knock $50-70/tire off the rear tire cost. Last edited by Hokie 335i; 04-13-2010 at 05:26 PM.. |
