AFE Dual Cone Intake
I'm looking for an easy & modest power gain without changing too many things (exhaust, downpipes, etc.). I've decided to go with intake system. How does the AFE dual cone intake peform? The site claims 27HP/32TQ gains.. true or bogus? Would this even make a noticable difference? How does it compare to the Burger Motorsports Dual Cone Intake which is a 3rd the price?
Also, my other alternative is the JB+ tune because from what I hear it's relatively easy to install and gives about 60HP. The only problem is I've heard all these tunes are bad for the engine and drivetrain because they were not built to handle so much power. Could you guys give me some insight on how this works and what you'd pick... intake vs. tune? Thanks. |

Okay, look... I've posted this several times, and others have done more than I have as far as research into this... So i'll make this simple: IF YOU DON'T HAVE A TUNE, AN INTAKE IS WORTHLESS... Buy a tune first, before looking at an intake, because you may end up loosing power if you buy an intake without a tune to take advantage of it. Also the stock intake box is good up until about 375-400hp. The amount of money you spend on the AFE intake would be better placed towards getting the JB3 or PROcede... The Tunes are only bad for your engine if you run them at levels that don't have the supporting MODS to go along with them. NO one on here has claimed that their engine has blown because of a tune, that I know of, you need to do more research in regards to this. Most of the problems that occur because of a tune, is because the user who used the tune, did something stupid, not because the tune did something wrong, or the problems existed before the tune, and the tune just made them more prominent. You should be looking at MODing your car in the following way: 1. JB3 or PROcede, GIAC, or DINAN (depending on how much you want to spend) the Piggies (JB3 and PROcede will get you more power) 2. FMIC (too many manufactures to list) 3. Down Pipes (Catted or catless) (UR, AR, VK, BB fab) 4. Catted or Catless Exhaust system (AE, Vanguard, Custom setup, Borla, Magnaflow, etc....) 5. Intake (INJEN, UR, STETT, AFE, etc...) Please because this is just a simplified answer to what your looking for

Shoot an email to AJ from ECS Motorsports, I got my Injen Intake from him last week and he had the best price I could find. Great customer service too.

@Army335xi:
WOW! Way to educate the noob by drowning them in acronyms! @BLACK335ICOUPE: I'd start by reading all the sticky threads in the forums, especially the ones in the DIY section. You'll find a lot of good info there. Once you've done that, start utilizing the Search functionality of this board by refining your search terms to get the answers you need. |

I wanted a modest tune and didn't want to spend Dinan money. I think the best approach based on your specifications is as follows:
1. Juicebox plus. Moderate power gains, not too crazy, good entry level tune. I think groups have them priced at like $199 or so. 2. Burger Motorsports cold air intake (CAI). $139. Do yourself a favor, if you put ANYTHING like this on your car grab the Bavarian Technic scanning tool. You will thank us when you take your car in and your dealer doesn't attempt to void your warranty because of a shadow code your tune/CAI has thrown. Worth every penny. Above all else: PRIOR to taking your car into the dealer please remove your mods. The last thing we want to see here is another victim of the obvious. Good luck and have fun!
