335d gear change queery
Hi all,
I bought the missus a 335d coupe a couple of months back and since have had to fight for the odd play at the weekends. The only niggle I have is that with the DSG button pressed (And held in) and all the supposed driver aids off I have had the gearbox play silly bug*ers a couple of times. When making a spirited exit from a junction and coaxing a little bit of tail out fun it has occasionaly refused to change up and has gone into something that can only be described as a limp home mode (Sorry for the poor discription). As soon as you move the stick into D you can carry on as if nothing has happened and there are no fault codes logged. Can anybody shed any light on what may be happening/ Cheers in advance Mike |

Your car does not have DSG.
You need to hold it down for 5 secs to FULLY disable it. Try it like that. Limp home mode is only cured if the ignition is switched on and off. Not from re-selecting D. I presume you came hard out of the junction and you only had it ''partially'' disabled and it cut in hampering your progress and tail out fun.

I had the button pressed for the 5 seconds and it was fully dissabled (The large symbol showing this was illuminated in the dash display).
Once I did have to switch off then on the ignition to get it to work correctly so I guess it was in limp home mode. What would cause it to do this? Could it be the gearbox trying to adapt from one style of driving to another and simply getting "confused" as to what to do? Please excuse my vaugeness but as I mentioned before no fault is getting thrown up so I am just left unsure as to what is happening. |

Is the car re-mapped?
Unless there is a boost hose not quite on tight and when you full throttle it, comes away slightly?! How has the car been today?

Hi again,
The car is totally standard (for now) and has never been a problem with anything apart from taking off rapidly from a standstill in sport mode. It accelerates well in the first gear but then doesn't change up for some reason. I can't say that I have tried this too often as I don't want to break anything if there is a problem. the last time it did this it put the car into what I believe to be limp home mode and I had to switch off and restart to sort it out. Ordinarily I would go to the local BMW garage but I just know they will say "book it in and we will have a look as well as lightening your wallet of a couple of hundred quid" when I know the outcome is that they will say "there are no faults logged so it is ok". I just thought that with all the experience in this forum that somebody may know what is happening. Regards Mike |

is the car under warranty?
When you say wont shift up? Limp home is quite alarming, stopps accelerating what so ever. It deffo should not be doing this.

the DSC and limp mode aren't really related....do you get the "power loss" display? ...when you say, it doesn't change up gear...are you in manual? or is it in D mode and not changing?...
