Dangers of Fender Rolling

I searched but didnt find what I was looking for...

I just got a quote on rolling my rear fenders. The quotes ive been getting are all pretty similar price wise. Ive talked to a few people but was warned by a shop today about rolling. They advised me that theres a possibility that my fenders will "buckle" and crack the paint on the outside. He said I need to be especially careful because my car is black, and any cracks in the paint will show more then any other color (which makes sense).

So my question is, has anyone ever had problems with their fenders "buckling" or their paint cracking?

I know heat will need to be used obviously, and a proper fender rolling machine which is why im paying for it instead of doing it the good old baseball bat way!

Anything else to look out for? Things to stay away from?

Just heat it well and it won't crack.

that's like saying "no danger if they don't fuck it up." point being -- there's always a danger and there are no guarantees. best bet is to find a reputable shop, but there's always a chance of something going wrong...

lol i did it with my cousin couple of weeks ago. Dunno wat hit me in the head to do it cause i was planning to roll them properly in the shop. We did it a baseball bat method. I used hairdryer to heat up the paint Was so getto but damn it made me smile when i stopped rubbing the fender. My left side still rubs sometimes and we probably have to do it again but im not even sure if it rubs the fender or that cover under the fender. p.s. my paint didnt crack.

Wow, can't believe you took a baseball bat to your car!!! hahaha... i'm glad it came out well, but i'd never resort to those types of DIYs where i can't guarantee the outcome!

Eww.

In all seriousness, how difficult was the baseball bat method?

Aren't the rollers on line only like $20? A guy told me yesterday that just like most things.....you just have to be patient. It should take you a few hours just to do one end of the car. As long as you take your time, you won't crack anything.

Thats for the responses.

As far as I know a proper fender roller is over $200 online... the quotes im getting are between $100-200, if I could pick up a real fender roller for $20 id do it myself for sure. Not willing to risk it with a bat though, and I want them as rolled as possible so I can get as aggressive as I want with the rear fitment!

haha guys i have no idea what the baseball bat method is but i assume you put a bat at the edge of the fender, apply pressure and slowly roll the bat? if yes then thats what i did. However, I didnt use the baseball bat since the car was dropped the bat would not fit between the fender and the wheel so i had to use something thiner then a baseball bat. I also put tape on the edge of the bar to make it softer not to damage the fender.

and the tool i used was.... ready? rofl

fender can buckle not by rolling it but when u actually pull the fender out. its not a problem on out cars since the quarter panels are pretty thick. but ive seen it happen on s2000 before. not pretty.

i have my fenders rolled and pulled and flared and it only cost me 40 bucks

I have a black car and I got the fenders rolled at the shop. It cost $75 per corner. No more rubbing and no paint cracking. Its been almost a few years now. I did the same thing to my old car as well.

wow cheap. Whats does flared and pulled out mean?

I really want to put spacers. My rear looks nice but id love to go to et 23 or 20. Front needs to spacer even more but im scared to buy em cause of fender roll dont feel like spending so much money.

Does springs VS coils make a difference? Im thinking may be im rubbing cause springs on oem shocks are softer and there fore car jumps more. Coil would be stiffer and wont let the car bounce that much.

Wheres Speedstar located???

Flared and pulled means they literally roll the fenders then pull them out a bit, ultimately thats what Id like but Im scared to do it!!

Thanks!!! Ill google the phone number and give them a shout!

As for pulling the fenders, Id be very nervous doing so. The outcome can be fantastic but also has a lot of room for disaster. My rim guy used to have an e46 M3 convertable with 19x10 rears running 265/30/19 and agressive offsets with his fenders rolled and pulled. He was able to tuck while sitting flush. Tucked like his was isnt the look im going for, but super flush is!

Where in Toronto are you? If LOVE to check out the roll they did on your car if youd let me
