terry cloth or micro fibre?

For wiping dust/dirt off the JBlack exterior.

Also is there a difference in quality?

I went to my local auto store (Canadian tire) and there was like seriously 20 different automoblie towels/rags/wipes.

I'm so confused! I'm a novice.

Thanks

I got the same problem you got brother as far as exterior car color. I went down to Costco and picked up a pack of Microfiber cloths for $15. They work great Also good for polishing/buffing.

Be careful about micro-fiber quality (i.e. don't use the ones that you can get for $2/5 at Walmart). Since you have a black car, it may be worth it to invest in some good towels for cleaning/drying/polishing, etc. Look at www.autopia.org for suggestions.

BTW you should NEVER dry dust a black car unless you want lots of small scratches all over the paint...

I also use some quick detailer product with the micro-fiber towels between washes. Want to be careful not to rub on the car if it is dirty though. Dusty is one thing, dirty is another.

If you want a good "dusting" product check out Poorboys Spray & Wipe, it's basically a high lubricity waterless wash for light dust.

As for terry vs mf; everyone has their favorite, I use mf as do most of the guys on Autopia.

I love towels from autopia... mostly sonus ultimate detailing towel with SmartDetail spray for light dust on paint or to clear glass... I always have two MF towels and two detailing towels with SmartDetail spray at my trunk...

Water alone will create streaks, you need a product that will dry quicker and leaves a shine.

No!!!! You need something that will actually lublicate the dirt (like a QD or S&W) and a MF towel with a nap to it. The QD will allow the dirt to come off of the car and not scratch it, and the nap on the MF will trap the dirt in the fibers and not touch the car once it comes off.

Water is also no good because it has no lubricity; as in - it will just loosen the dust but you'll still be wiping it across the car. You need to at least use a quick detailer, or better, an actual waterless wash; these products lift the dust up as you wipe, and of course have silicone in them so they dry quickly, don't streak, and leave a luster.

Edit; espo89 beat me to it.

ok one more question. I jsut got my car 3 days ago. The dealer got it detailed professional. I know they waxed it but don;t know if they sealed it.

Right now dirt mud snow just slides right off the car.
How long should I wait before reapplying new wax/sealent etc?
(Theres lots of snow here, if thats a factor)

Thanks all. I really a noob at this. (Whats a nap?)
