Question Clay Bar test with "white tac"

Call me a stickler, but when I read that you have to spend all your money and these "named" products ..... out of spite I suppose I have to look into things a bit further.

I am not tight at all, but I sometimes begrudge forking out all the time for things that are "labeled" - as must have this product items.

For example "clay bar" detailing kits ... not expensive I know - however.

I know this is a huge debate around the forums too.

Anyway it stems from my initial post in another topic, which I do not want to hijack:

Anyway due to being out in the sticks here (no decent shops within 18 mile), and staring at "blue tac" on my desk, that too got me wondering.

A quick google search came up with a mixed response for using blue tac as a clay bar.

One of which was from a very good car restoration detailer, who swore by blue tac - for the last 20 years !!

Anyway I nipped over to our stationary store and grabbed 2 packs of "white tac".

Earlier this afternoon on I decided to give it a go, and see if it would produce any results

Well - I have to say, the results are great ..... only did the bonnet and sides, however it looks 100 times better, removing all water marks, and areas I thought where shiny, are now a deep black gloss .......

I was gobsmacked, and will therefore be "detailing" my whole car this weekend with White Tac .....lol.

Also used an old spray bottle with a very weak mixture of car shampoo and water, as Lube.

I am not sure why people are saying it does not work .... as it 100% does.

.

Anyway I got itchy feet, so went back out to finish the job, to see what the results would be like.

Bear in mind, this is from an Iphone, was a quick 1 hour job and has not even been waxed yet (tomorrow maybe).

Excuse the Military Married Quarters in the shots .... but thats what we get ...lol.

Bonnet

White Tac, after use (yes car was washed well prior):

Do not get me wrong, I am not saying this Car is now "Detailed" - but its made a difference, and looks a lot "newer".

Light scratches/swirls, not the kind you get if you scrape something but just really fine scratches that catch the light...

Aha, yes with you.

My car when I bought it had these, swirls of very very fine scratches, as if someone had washed it with a coarse cloth ........... only noticeable if you "really" look for it.

Anyway the rear of the car has not got any (not sure why?), and I was also aware - having read up about clay v blue tac that it "may" scratch / marr, so made sure to concentrate at looking on the rear - both before and after.

No there was no marring at all after I had finished.

That's great news. I actually bought some Meguiars clay this weekend in a bid to get rid of my "spots" (which as you know didn't work!).

Like I said, I'm more than happy to buy clay if it works, but something inside me always wants to "try things out" ..... Devils advocate style !!

Its also not worked at times too over the years ...lol
