Opinions on M-Style Romford...

Guys,

What's the opinion on the above company? I need to have a bumper resprayed and I was thinking I would take it to them rather than a random bodyshop. They're supposed to be BMW specialists and I hear they focus mainly on cosmetics and mods.

Are they pretty good? Is there anyone else in the area I should consider? I remember reading a thread where they had used the wrong oil in some chaps M3 so I am a little wary...but seeing as I am only have some cosmetic work done (bumper off, respray, bumper back on) I was hoping they would be ok seeing as they specialise in styling etc...

Any opinions/suggestions for alternatives welcome.

Cheers.

I've never used them but I would of had my Z4 be one month older but thats another story.

From the phone call I had with them the first bloke to answer the phone sounded like a useless chav but I then spoke to one of their engineers who was very switched on and knew exactly what I was after.

The bodyshop that Sytner Harold Wood use is VERY good, and wasn't that expensive from memory...

Speak to Raj from MStyle, he's the only one I deal with. He'll sort you out...some of their modifications can be expensive though, perhaps get a quote from both and see what's good for you.

Expensive enough for me...I'd tend to shy away from stealer associated services, get a quote and see what's adequate. MStyle are good though for cosmetics, at least from my experience.

Sunny,

Have you had any work done by them or just buying accessories?

Got my splitters painted and installed for a reasonable price. Also my new lights were done by them too. From my experience they're decent. They are professional.

My initial opinions were great. Spent close to £4000 with them. I took the car there a month or 2 ago complaining about a dodgy noise coming from the suspension and it had been a persistent problem since they installed the springs for me.

After they checked it the claimed nothing was wrong and blamed it on the tyre size even though they were the ones that put recommended that tyre size in the beginning. They said when you have to change the tyres just put 275's on instead of 285's.

The car went into BMW towards the end of last week for some warranty work which is when they told me i have suspension bolts loose and the car is unsafe to drive which means m-style have had me driving around in an unsafe car for the last 4 months when the springs were fitted. BMW quoted me £245 + VAT to tighten the bolts! Called up m-style straight away and they said to get it in writing which i did the next day when i picked up the car.

Called up M-style the following day once again after i had collected . Explained the whole situation to a rather rude guy on the other end of the phone. I explained how the problem had been persistent since they fitted the springs and i'd been back to them on another occasion for the problem and been told there was no problem and because of your negligence i'd been driving around in an unsafe car and also that i called yesterday and i was told to get it in writing which i had. He said in exact these words after the explanation, 'You can book it in but there will be a £50 diagnosis fee'

I tried to explain to him that this is unfair due to the problem being there since the springs were fitted. He then said to me you either book it in and pay £50 for the diagnosis or don't book it in at all.

I was very unhappy with the treatment i recieved from them after spending so much money with them. After a long fuss and a conversation with the manager they agreed to book it in but stated if it's not the suspension bolts we will have to charge you £50.

I took it to a local mechanics the next day and got the bolts tightened for £29 inc vat and the noise completely went.

After this encounter i would deffinately not deal with them again but as SiKkBaSs said Raj is pretty much the only guy to deal with there and i learnt that the other day.

Lots of guys on here think they're cowboys - lots of threads about them using sub-standard oil in M-cars etc. They're also VERY expensive for what they are.

On the subject of the bumper you need to speak to Hardev at Sira Motors. He's a very mild mannered chap and the standard of his work is excellent. I recently had a dent and scrape on my rear bumper with parking sensors when the car was only a few months old. He sorted it and the finish is better than new (not that that's hard to acheive).

He's in Barking, east London. Paint's now four months or so months old and still excellent finish - had it in and back in a day. Other people on here have used him and he's great. Charged 180 cash for my bumper - can't get better than that and nearly as cheap as crappo smart repairs.

Address: 42 Alfreds Way, Barking Industrial Park, Barking, IG11 0TJ

Tel 020 8591 0528

Say James with the blue m-sport coupe sent you - he might remember me from Christmas time.

Good luck

nc123,

Thanks for that information. I think I will stay away.

Jamese93,

Excellent post, I will give Sira a call and see what he can do for me. Was the colour match good on the work he did for you?

DrunkenMonkey,

Have you seen any of the work that Balgores do? I was under the impression that Sytner Harold Wood have their own bodyshop on site???

Like I said go there for cosmetic upgrades. Easily one of the best there is as they offer a lot of variety and do a good job for decent"ish" prices. Plus with cosmetics it's a what you see is what you get kind of argument.

I wouldn't trust them with anything mechanical though, that unfortunately is left to the stealers

I've only seen one thread about it...and yes their services can be a little steep a lot of the time.

4 months in an unsafe car is pretty bad, and was not dealt with good either !!

However, whats more shocking is:

£245 + VAT to tighten some bolts up via a BMW Dealer ......... that's an absolute Joke / p£*" take - and the reason why I refuse to go to them ......... local mechanic £29 + VAT as you say ........... that proves it 100% to me !!

It should be illegal, I find it truly disgusting I really do

No idea I'm afraid,

its an insurance claim so will know next week.

re. bodyshop on site, not sure, however Anneka did kindly confirm to me that Sytner use them before I accepted the works to take place there.

new rear door and new rear arch for me + 1 new tyre and allignment check

I know its nothing to go by, but they are very professional and helpful over the phone

I usually get run of the mill stuff done at my local BMW garage oil change, brakes etc.

The one big job I had done at the stealers (for real peace of mind) was the replacement of coked up valves and a forced oil change because of it. Had to be stealers as my car had literally died!

I wouldn't use M style because in my opinion they are only ok at supplying accessories. I would do what Tony has said or highly recommend Sira Motors in Barking, who are one of the best quality producing bodyshops I know. They paint all sorts of exotica and they painted another forum members bumper who was really please with the job.
