Cracked Windshield! Help Please

Hey guys and gals,

thanks to the 404 I have a cracked windshield. Took it in to Speedy and it definitely needs to be replaced; can't be repaired.

Anyone has any experience with these Auto Glass shops? Any preference in the Newmarket area between Speedy, Apple and Auto Glass Plus? Any reason to be concerned using an exact replica aftermarket glass vs BMW? Also does it matter if I pay for it or go through insurance?

Clearly this is my first time dealing with this stuff so any and all comments are welcome.

Merci

when dealing with something as important as a windshield/airbag/brakes or something like that its always a good idea to spent the bit extra for a safe/warranted OEM piece..just seems safer to me..but thats just my opinion

Happened to me last summer. Went to BMW and was quoted $1,6xx including labour. Parts alone are $9xx and the rest is labour and tax. I didn't go this route nor claim insurance, instead I asked my cousin who owns a bodyshop to order me an OEM Pilkington windsheild from the dealer at wholesale price and have another friend of mine who's been in the windsheild repair business for over 20 years replace it for me...total cost $600. Saved $1,000!

If you are interested in this, send me a PM and I'll see if I can pull this off for you. Don't get an aftermarket windsheild, everyone I've spoke to encountered leaking and wind noise.

I got my OEM windshield replaced by Jonathan, sorry, I don't remember his company name. Below is his contact number

Jonathan
416- 451 9679

PS.
OEM winshield with labor, I paid $800. (Dealer quoted me $1500+tax)
Non OEM winshield, Jonathan quoted me something like $300-$400.

Best things is he comes to your place to replace the windshield for you.

Got a similar price at Bimmersport... some brand I've never heard off, but does the job.

Had my windshield replaced twice. The first one was an aftermarket one, and it didn't fit, too narrow. So we had to go with the OEM. Insurance paid the whole thing. There is a previous thread on this.

Thanks all!! Feedback was great.

For sure I'm going OEM, and having it changed on Thursday at the dealer; through insurance.

I'll be sure to keep these notes handy in case there's a next time and insurance says no go ... but hopefully we'll be fine.

Can't wait to be back to normal!!

Thanks again

do not compare insurance systems / rates from state run provinces like Vancouver and Quebec with privatelly owned, money hungry ones in Ontario. They are sucking people dry out there....

Thanks Sathees! I'll keep the info for next time.

The car is at Open Road right now getting the new windshield done; I'm cruising in a black Suzuki SX4 ... jealous???

LOL

As of Monday free loaner policy is dunzo, it's going to be $20/rental; $40/BMW

Ah well
