What suspension should I get?
Hi,
I´m interested in getting new suspension for my e90 with Sport Package. Any suggestions? Right now, I have Billstein HD shocks and struts in my mind. Are there any alternative? Thanks. |

Lots of choices out there. Ground control, HP autowerk, Dinan, BMW performance, Bilstein PSS 9/10, and any number of combinations of springs and shocks. It all depends on what you want. Even within these choices you can pick different spring/shock rates. If you track your car, get the m3 components (at least front control arms and rear subframe bushings) with your suspension. If you don't drive your car hard at all, then you're pretty much basing your choice on ride hight and ride quality.
Personally, I have Dinan's stage 3 suspension. I'm pretty happy with it, but I don't have the M3 bits. It's a good mix for track/street use. The drop isn't too low so you still have good shock travel and the ride on the street is stiff but not too jarring. Still a little too much understeer for my tast though. If I had to do it over again, I'd get the stage 1 with M3 sway bars, front control arms, rear subframe bushings, and front tension rods.

Like I had mentioned before, I´m thinking about getting Bilstein HD shocks and struts which the performance characteristics of the product just place in Premium and Performance Street categories which might be not good enough for me since I´ve been thinking of tracking my car sometimes. So, now I´m considering about Koni FSD Damper Set which place in all performance category. BTW. I wanna get H&R Race Springs as well ![]() |

I would definitly go with OEM or something that has been custom valved. Ground control, HP Autowerk, and Dinan all have custom valving. It's really important if you take it on the track. Also, M3 rear subframe bushings and front control arms are almost a must for track use.
I would caution you against getting springs and shocks separate. Coilover kits for reputable tuners have been thoroughly tested by pros. If you have the bank roll to get mutiple sets of springs and spend time spwaping them out until you have the right ones then go for it. Shocks don't come for the factory perfectly identical, that's why getting them revalved is so important. You can get them revalved at any shop that specializes in revalving. If you don't track your car you probably will not notice any difference between them. Lastly a proper alignment and corner balance is just huge. Tuners will have alignmet specs that suit thier suspension.
