A vote of confidence to the durability of stock turbos

Well I just recently had some work done on my vehicle and was able to check the shaft play on the stock turbos. I'm happy to say that after 32k miles, ~25k Procede tuned, 250+ drag strip passes with many of those boosting 16-17+ psi on stock intercooler, stock dp, stock exhaust I had ZERO shaft play.

The only thing I can say that I regularly do to keep my turbos somewhat healthy is not beat on them until my oil temp is at 160. knock on wood x3

Wow.....thanks for sharing.

I often worry about the durability of the stockers.

Had my turbos replaced after only one year for some modererate turbo whine.....but the dealer said they found nothing wrong with them once they were off the car, so it was a courtesy replacement.

Now the new ones are making the same whine.

Nice to know it's not the shafts.

I'm not worrying about it

I am lucky to say that I haven't had any noticeable whine except for when it's cold out and I just started the car. I live in a very warm climate though.

Also, no wastegaste rattle, but did have a small amount of play in them.

That's great man!
The only problem that I've had is the wastegates.
I had my turbos replaced because of the wastegates but that's it.
I also think that the block is excellent as well.

The only downside as everyone knows is the fuel pump/ignition system.
I have been extremely happy with the way this car has treated me.

Did it whine cold with the new set or the old set, or both?

If with the old set, did it go away with a new set?

I think the newest iteration/Part# with the beefier actuators should hold up better over time.

Now if a company can release a higher quality Fuel Pump, injectors and finally some way to deal with cleaning the valves, we should have a decently reliable performance cars.

It seems they worked out the kinks VANOS and Camshaft kinks from the older builds of the N54.

I'm still on the original set of turbos.

Ah, sorry. I don't know why I had the impression that you had a swap.

I had searched the topic and this came up, and when I read it I misunderstood.

Thanks though!
