Replacement DVD drive

My sat nav (2006 e91) has died

All of a sudden it just stopped reading the disc.
I've had it confirmed that the DVD drive itself has gone and it will be £530 + fitting + VAT to replace!!!

I could by a Tom Tom and a frickin driver to run me about for that!

Can these units be repaired?
I have had a little look around but cant find anywhere that repairs or replaces.... is Stealer my only option?!

Hmmmmmm what would I do in this situation??

Would I bother with a good, used drive from a salvage car? Maybe if it was the right money.

It would be borderline if I had to shell out £500+ to replace it though......

Surely someone could repair it!

Still not sure what to do to be honest.
I was actually thinking of changing car soon which is a sh'tter cos now i need to cough up £700ish just to get rid of it!
