... thought I'd look here for advice - I searched and all this information is overwhelming to a complete audio idiot like myself
So I have a 2007 e92 328i coupe with the BMW Professional sound system (Hi-Fi ?) GOAL: I want a slightly better sounding audio system at minimal cost / modification I want to keep OEM speakers, OEM subwoofers, just want to safely squeeze a little more performance out of them So, I gather the best, most cost efficient, easiest way to do this is by upgrading the AMP Now, my question.. it seems like there's an AMP that powers the RADIO and a separate AMP that powers the speakers / subwoofers... .. so I only need to buy ONE amp that runs to the speakers / subwoofers, right? I don't have to replace the one that runs to the radio? What wattage/RMS would be safe for my stock speakers/subs? Thanks everyone!

A JL XD6006 would be a good choice, it has the 6 channels of power you need, balanced differential inputs that will work with your oem deck, and crossovers built in, reasonably priced - and it will fit in the oem amp location. I can't speak to how well your oem drivers will hold up for sure (L7 drivers seem to be fine), but as long as you pay attention and keep yourself in check you should be fine - and you can always change out the speakers down the line too

I know the hifi speakers can handle 50-75w rms per side
If crossed over around 100hz But if you want the biggest bang for the buck Change the front tweeters The oem ones suck! |

you'll want to crossover more around 150-160hz... good to hear the power handling is ok though
you could add the amp to the L7 system, but you would need to keep the L7 amp in place and use line level converters after it. |

Thanks all
Lee - so I've heard the JL XD6006 name being tossed around alot.. you're saying I would need to crossover around 150-160hz to protect my stock speakers? How many watts/RMS would the stock non-L7 speakers be able to handle at that setting?
