Chrome Rain Gutter on 320i(EU/AUS)/325i(US)
Hi anyone knows how to remove black rain gutter on an E90 bmw?,
I had a look at www.realoem.com for parts and its schematic diagram, but at a lost on how to remove the clips that hold it together. Anyone has done it, and post photos, parts cost a fair amount in AUS, US$200 each side, can I sent the balck one to be chromed? Which is cheaper ?, I took a closer look at 330i with chrome gutter, the chrome looks cheap (not tripple chrome etc) Any comments? |

just try pulling on it, the one on my e46 is just clipped on, if you pull hard enough it will unclip. I would start from the back window area though |

chrome gutter
removing and installing the new rain gutters (trim piece) is very simple. its like the previous post says: start at the back and pull out.
the easiest way to understand how this works is just to look at the piece of trim that is going to replace your old trim. those little male pieces simply clip into holes in the frame around the door. and if you apply a small amount of pressure, they will clip back out. don't just start at the back and yank the trim piece, because it will bend. as clips pop out, slide your hand toward the front of the car along the trim piece to get better leverage, and to avoid bending the trim piece. the clip pieces (male pieces) may stick in the frame as you pull the trim off. you can then pull them out of the holes, and reattach them to your old trim. btw, before i realized how easy this was, i got a quote from the dealership for the install labor. $150 for each side!!! it took me about 15 minutes to do each side. |

Any pictures
Any pictures?, I am so not confident of getting it off, even just show us the old trim with the clips, and how you think it fits on the car.
From the lis of parts it looked like you need two type of clip, the fornt and the side clips. Give us the pic of the back of the old trim you pulled off, so I can better undetand it. Cheers, Ivan.

I just changed mine. As said, it's very easy to do. Just start pulling on the existing black trim from the rear window. The clips pop out easily enough. Don't worry about breaking the clips. The new chrome strips are supplied with clips.
I only did the top strips and not the ones at the base of the windows on the car doors. These parts are insanely expansive (ZAR 3200 / +- US$460 (@ US$1 = ZAR 7, not taking into account taxes and import). Here's a before and after picture. What do you guys think? Was it worth the money I spent? |
