annoying aircon
Hi,
I don't like aircon, yes it cools you down but usually it just annoys me, and i turn it off and just use the standard heaters / blowers.. is there any way to get the aircon to not come on by default when you turn on the climate control? i really just want to press the button on the odd occasion when i want aircon, not all the time to turn it off when i usually dont make use of it cheers! |

BTW, it is not good to leave the A/C off all the time, best used regularly or the system can become inefficient, as it possibly loses gas through drying seals. HighlandPete |

Mine stays off if I want it to - but as Pete says, if the auto button is pressed it comes on.
I don't find the ac annoying, I use it all year round, keeps the system 'lubed'!

For most of the time Im always set at 20.0 both sides AUTO and AUTO air recirc, with the temp wheel at the centre vents in the middle position and the automatic programme in idrive to soft! Rarely change temps, the odd time to 19 or 21...I find the climate control much much better than the one that was in my previous A4

ok, you guys are making valid points, you're right it does stay off if you set it off and only comes on when you hit auto, but i often turn off the climate all together, especially if i have the windows down.
so, when i turn it on again i press auto and the aircon comes on... 9/10 times i don't want that to happen as we live in such a temperate climate anyway air con hardly gets used for me.. |

I've got used to having to turn two temperature knobs all the time, so I've also got used to turning the AC off too!
Just one of those things really. In a way its good though because you need to run the A/C for 5 or 10 mins a weeks to keep it lubed (as already stated) so this reminds me to do it.

I suppose if you switch the whole system off, then you just need to resign yourself to the fact that you just need to push one more button when switching on the system. Saying that, I'd be wanting to use the full symten when you switch it on, just to keep it all in good condition, as said in my earlier post. So perhaps a good thing it defaults to full auto use.
I know a few don't use heating/ventilation systems, but personally I just don't see how you can these days, unless you want windows open and all the noise that goes with it. But each to his own. HighlandPete |

Only when it has to work hard in really hot conditions, again dependent on how cold you want the cabin, not as a 'climate control' in 'temperate' conditions. Also depends on what mpg baseline you start from, as to how it will show as an impact on mpg. Also the latest HVAC systems are very efficient compared to 10 or more years ago. On my 330d (from a baseline of about 37mpg), in hot conditions a maximum of about 2mpg, about 1mpg in average conditions. A 1.9TDI Passat at an average of 55 - 60mpg, would impact about 5mpg in very hot weather. Half that in average conditiions. Also remember the open windows alternative, can have nearly the same impact on mpg as the A/C. HighlandPete |
