Speeding ticket in Indiana
A while ago I got a speeding ticket in Indiana (81 mi in 70) zone.
I missed the payment duedate. However I got a letter threatening that they would try to cancel my license if I do not pay with-in 30 days. Does anyone have experience with this? Can they really get my Ontario license suspended? If anyone has any experience with a ticket in the USA please let me know. |

yeah, if you go to Indiana, and you never paid the ticket. they have the right to put you in jail.
if you never going back to the US, you don't really have to worry too much. but the simplest thing to do is.... contact them and just pay your ticket. |

I don't think they can cancel your license, unless they have some kind of power over our Ministry that we don't know of. What I have heard is, the customs will not let you by the next time you try to go to the states until you pay your fine + overdue fees.

They can have the tags (lic. #) flagged and shared with U.S. CBP, and with the integration of computer systems, the CBP agent will have a blinking item on his/her screen after the readers have processed your license...take your chances and let us know how it works out. Of course, just paying the fine would be a lot easier...at least it's not points and an effect on your insurance.....yet (i.e. don't push it ) Regards

I believe some U.S. States have a reciprocity agreement with the MTO. check the MTO website for this. I think, but am not positive, that for those States, the MTO will consider an upaid ticket as if it were an Ontario ticket.

That's often pretty standard in a lot of U.S. speedtraps I've seen, they usually pull over the cars with out of state license plates.

how often do you go to Indiana. it should never hit your liscence or insurance in Ontario, but Indiana will issue a bench warrant and haul you in on the spot if caught thier again. At least if within the statute of limitations.
Had a similar problem driving from Ontario to AB. Got nailed for 160-something in a 90. Neighbour is ex-RCMP told me to plead guilty and not pay it. Statute of limitations expires in 1 year, warrant for unpaid fine cancelled. Of course, that was more than 10 years ago. |
