How bad or tolerable is the OEM non Logic7 on 2010s
I am trying to figure out how bad is the non Logic7 sound system on the E90s that came in 2010.
For the 2011s, the option of Harmon Kardon System is there. Any thoughts? Is it going to be a huge loss if I get a car with non-logic7 stereo? TIA |

It sucks. 6" woofers and no tweeters. Logic 7 is a good deal. AFAIK, for parts plus labor, you can't aftermarket-upgrade to as good or better for cost of the option.

depends on how u enjoy your music. If you have to settle for bose system at home, then chances are you won't like the non-L7. L7 is not that great anyways though....sucks they're charging an arm and leg for it nowadays (mine came free with 335 lol)

The "new" base 6-speaker system is sub-par, from everything I read. The old base 10-speaker was very decent; it still had a dedicated amp. The 6-speaker uses the head unit as the amp. If you value audio quality, you'll probably find the HK/L7 upgrade to be well worth the cash over the 6-speaker base.

It's average. If your a big audiophile, you will be disappointed. If I was 21, I would definitely want the L7. At 32 now, the stock is fine for my needs. There was 2 options my car didn't have, L7 and Xenons and out of the 2, if I had to choose, I'd want xenons.....

i have a 2010 "stock radio" and i HATE ITTTTTT. every time a song i like is playing i turn it up only to have the speakers FART HORRIBLY as i drive faster because the radio automatically turns itself up louder then the engine noise and then it just makes horrible distorted farting blown speaker like noises. i HATE MY RADIO.

thanks guys.
Any idea if I can replace stock speakers with something better? Will it cause issues with warranty on a lease vehicle. Electronics huh. mbhforum: I am in the same boat, I desperately need Xenons, but Logic7 is not there on the car. And I see you have the same color combination as I have been hunting for |

But yes, you can always 'upgrade' your stock system with an aftermarket setup. It will not have any effect on your warranty unless something related breaks. |

I can tell you in all sincerity that the stock system is pitiful. Those who have complained about it are not exaggerating by any stretch. I have one and from the minute I left the dealership and flipped the radio on I was completely deflated. It's the one major regret I have about my 2010 E90.
I'm in the process of getting it upgraded but it's an added cost and hassle that i didn't anticipate. If you have the option of getting L7 - I would absolutely do it. J |

+1 on the crappy base system.
I had the base system in my E46 and was quite happy with it, just got my E92 and figured I wouldn't bother with the upgraded sound since I liked the one in the base E46. Big mistake, the base E92 is quite awful. And it sounds like its a bitch to upgrade it to something decent. |

One thing to consider is the base system with iDrive is a better 25 watt system vs. a 15 watt system in the non-iDrive car. So the base system in a iDrive car will sound a little better.
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showpo...6&postcount=16 Here are my comments about the base system in an iDrive equipped 2011 E92. |

Base audio with iDrive sucks. 10 extra watts can't improve the junk speakers they installed at the factory. You know is it bad when even talk radio sounds crappy.

I'm soooooo glad I got a 2009 with base system. I had a 2007 with Logic 7 and had to compromise with my new wife on the 2009. I will admit, and I'm an audiophile myself, the base 2009 (w/iDrive) system is darn good. The only thing missing is the woofers under the seats and the midrange speaker on the dash. Other than that, the base system kicks out bass without much distortion at high levels. The highs are crisp. My wife constantly tells me to turn the stereo down and cut the bass. Stepping out of the car, you can here the bass pretty well. It's a shame they downgraded the base system in the 2010s.

I had Logic 7 in my e90 and it was great!!!! This is the one option I miss not having in my e92, even though I have the HiFi sound.
My sister has a lci e90 with base sound, and it sucks. She cant tell the difference but if you've been spoiled with the L7 then you will notice the difference.

Base audio on my 2010 E92 it absolutely terrible. I've had one door speaker replaced so far and it is going in again for popping and farting noises at high volume. BTW the car has 6k miles.
It is totally unacceptable on a vehicle costing this much. I paid 35k for my 08 135i and that system (stock) blows the doors off of my 48k E92. That's just bullshit.
