Been using Sunoco 94 for as long as I can remember...I frikin live beside one :-) No problems whatsoever. Ethanol this, Ethanol that...just maintain your car and use fuel injector cleaner regularly. Believe it or not, you can actually feel a difference 3 octane makes. Anyway, to each their own I guess.

Sometimes I feel my car is sluggish, regardless of whatever gas I put in...then an hour later, it'll feel responsive...i think its all in the head. Honestly, I've been trying to figure out the benefits of 94 v. 91...for a mere bmw 3 series, I doubt its even worth it...overall it makes $60 difference for me over the course of the year...so I don't really mind. I think 91 is good enough; I've used Shell and Petro Can (prob has 10% ethanol i Blv)...20 000 Km...no HPFP yet...still waiting on that bad boy. |

Been using shell for as long as I can remember won't go for anything else and the fact that there isn't any ethanol is a plus =D

at bmw toronto, the master technician trained at the autobahn (they say) who came to test drive my car, cause i thought the engine was acting up....told me that bmw, audi, benz and volkswagen have an agreement with shell to use premium gas (91 octane) fit for their cars....i dunno how much of it is true but i pump shell now lol

I just switched over to Petro Can 94 octane. They just put it in near my house. Now i know the bum dyno does'nt count for sh!t. But i do feel a difference. I switched back to 91 after and i felt the car more sluggish.
I have to PM mike @ N54 to see if the PBX tunes are designed on 91 octane, if it is, there may no added benefits to the 94.

Apparently, Sunoco bought Petro Can. Some of the Sunoco's around town will be converted (I believe just just the corporate colors I.e logo's, colors, marketing stuff) but the gas will remain the same. They're about to change the Sunoco beside my apartment to Petro Can. If you have the Sunoco points card it can only be used at converted gas stations and not existing Petro Can's.

Regardless of what gasoline grade is used, there will always be "water" in the gas tank, lines etc. Maybe not a lot, but there is. I uses Sunoco 94 and once every now and then pour in a bottle of water remover in the gas tank. Works for me...no problems yet.

That's funny...reading your original post and subsequent comments it's seems like you are not a fan of Sunoco 94 :-)
On a side note, I don't remember reading anything on my purchase agreement when I bought my car that using Sunoco 94 will void any and all warranty. IF ...and this is a big IF...my car for some strange reason acts up due to using a higher octane than recommended by BMW (all they say is "minimum 91 octane) I'll just take it in. Fortunately, I'm an N/A. Has anyone with a N54 motor replaced their HPFP due to ethanol? Probably none. Oh...here's what came up when I looked up Ethanol in the dictionary: "1. Also called ethyl alcohol, grain alcohol, ethanol, fermentation alcohol. a colorless, limpid, volatile, flammable, water-miscible liquid, C2H 5OH, having an etherlike odor and pungent, burning taste, the intoxicating principle of fermented liquors, produced by yeast fermentation of certain carbohydrates, as grains, molasses, starch, or sugar, or obtained synthetically by hydration of ethylene or as a by-product of certain hydrocarbon syntheses: used chiefly as a solvent in the extraction of specific substances, in beverages, medicines, organic synthesis, lotions, tonics, colognes, rubbing compounds, as an automobile radiator antifreeze, and as a rocket fuel." Did they say rocket fuel? Yea baby!!! LOL :-)

Sorry Nash, got carried away in my previous post.
They sell a few different brands at Canadian Tire. Water remover is used in the gas tank whenever someone stores their car for an extended amount of time. Condensation builds up in the tank as the gas sits due to fluctuating temperatures inside and outside the tank. Think about this...how long has the gas been sitting inside those massive underground tanks at the gas station? Or...in the transport re-fill trucks? It's not likely you're ever going to get a "fresh" tank of gas. GOD knows how long that gas has been sitting around. So...in closing, as a precaution I use a water remover in my tank. I'm not saying it's the right thing to do, it's just my preference and habit. BTW...I don't work for Sunoco as some of my friends have already asked me :-)

To tell you the truth, I think I do better mileage on 94 and my car sounds more gruntier. Could be psychological, thats just me. Shell @ 91 was what I used to put earlier during the spring, but since been using the 94. I still cant tell the difference... The 94 makes me feel better though
