Cracking Leatherette
Has anyone had cracking of the leatherette on the seats repaired under warranty? I have a slight cracking developing on the drivers seat side boltster. The car is only a year old. Thanks.

Thanks. I'll check with my dealer about having the seat replaced. Hopefully it won't recur. I guess I should have ordered leather.

They only replace the piece that is cracked. If your seat bottom is cracked, they will only replace the bottom piece, at least that's what my dealer did.
I got mine replaced under warrenty, they replaced both the upper and lower leatherette "covers" on my car.

I had my cracked as well, on the driver's seat. They replaced it under warranty. It was the original 4 year warranty so no problems. I don't know what will happen after 2010 as I go into my CPO warranty.

i had mine replaced under warranty, and they only replaced the section of the seat that actually cracked, just like another poster said. pretty straight forward, just take it to your dealer and they will take care for you

i had it replaced twice on my old sedan and they just replace the leatherette cover. its just foam underneath and will take a couple days for your bum to mold it back into shape

I'm surprised if you could get the seat to mold at all. These seats are really firm. I think that my problem is that is that I constantly brush against the side bolster when I get in the car. I keep the seat a bit forward rather than sitting far back from the wheel. I could slide the power seat backwards a bit and then use the memory setting to slide back. But I'm too lazy to do that every time I get in the car.

Is this a pretty common issue with BMW's leatherette? I'm kind of worried now (although mine has yet to show any signs of cracking), but I wonder if it's something that can be somewhat prevented with products/care.

Make sure you have some vinyl care products (ideally the ones from BMW, which is a somewhat of a ripoff) to condition the vinyl.
I have never had problem on the MB-tex before. The BMW leatherette is crap!

Sorry for reviving an old thread. Mine has the same problem, the bottom left cracked twice! Any solution? I think the leatherette isn't tight enough, there is too much play that's the problem.

I personally don't have experience with this company - however their before/after pics look promising.

Ive seen an x5 get both their seats replaced at autohaus bmw. Problem with the seat.
Cracking is considered wear and tear. The only way they replace the whole seat is if the electronics fail. Iv been trying to get my foam replaced cause I drive a lot and I'm quite heavy so they wear a lot quicker. I'm starting to hit the wire thing under the foam. |
