Forge Motorsport BMW N54 Diverter Valve (FM DVBM35B)

Wanted to post this as FYI.

About a week ago I installed N54 Forge DVs (FM DVBM35B) with green springs that came pre-installed and ER Charge Pipe on my E93/335i

After taking the car for test drive I was throwing LIMPs under WOT, usually when I hit over 12 PSI.

BT Tool scan captured:
30FF Exhaust fume turbo charger, low pressure side
Error will not cause a warning light

Contacted Terry@BMS and sent him Error Codes with JB3 DataLogs. Right away he told me he can see a boost leak from the data logs and certainly the cause for ECU throwing LIMP under WOT. I've asked Terry if green springs might be the cause, his response was, this isn't a spring problem.

So I thought I fcked up on install which is causing a boost leak somewhere. Luckily the weather has been shit or I've been busy to fix the problem over the past week

Since my buddy now was worried for me to install his DV kit due to the issue I've run into, he took his car today to BMW performance shop to get the install done. After they installed his DV kit he started to throw the LIMP.

Luckily I also brought my car to the shop today to see if they have a way to pressurized the system to determine where I'm getting the leak vs. searching for the needle in the "hay stack" and spending hours looking for it by trial and error.

With my buddy and I having the same problem and after shop put his OEM DVs back that made the problem go away. I've suggested to change my springs to yellows to see if that might be the root of the problem. The shop was also 99% certain that we have leaky Forge DVs and spring is not an issue. So I insisted to try it out.

After my springs got changed and taking the car for aggressive test drive the problem was GONE !!!!. Then the shop changed the springs from green to yellow on my friends DVs and installed them back. BANG his problem is gone !!!

So BE AWARE if you install Forge Motorsport BMW N54 Diverter Valve (FM DVBM35B) and made sure clamps, hoses are tight and vacuum hoses are reattached as per install instructions; if you running into BOOST LEAK problem it might be caused by using GREEN springs vs Yellows, even though GREEN are rated up to 15PSI.

Hopefully my personal experience helps to other that are considering to install Forge Motorsport BMW N54 Diverter Valve (FM DVBM35B)

That's pretty interesting! I had green on my car and no issues but I run yellow now due to all the mods!

Switched back to yellow from green as green couldn't hold steady boost above 15

Hi Guys,

I'm Belarus's buddy who was also installing the Forge DV's in my E90. It was the strangest thing and I am glad that Belarus insisted on having the springs changed as we thought we had defective DV's.

I threw a limp as soon as I floored the gas pedal. We were only running JB3 2.0 Map 3!! Would not hold any boost what so ever and I tried three WOT's with the same result. Threw in the stock DV's and no issue. I was reserved to the fact that these must have been a bad production run until Belarus had the old light bulb go off in his head and try the yellow springs as a last resort.

On a side note I was blown away to see the stock DV's once removed. I could not believe they were PLASTIC!! The Forge DV's are a solid product and night and day difference in quality.

Anyway glad Belarus posted our experience and hope it helps some folks in the future avoid some the problems we went through. I would also suggest that anyone that installs make sure that the do few WOT's to ensure they are working properly. I had mine installed at a shop and if it wasn't for me taking the care for a test run prior to leaving, I would have never known the problem existed. Unfortunately the shop did not take the care for a hard drive to check if the DV's were functioning properly.

Cheers!

I'm surprised that there was that big of an issue because i never had an issue with the green springs.
There's actually many issues with why the DVs were failing.
There are plenty of O rings where the DVs could have been leaking.
Yes, i am using the yellows not, but I've never had an issue with using green.

I talked to forge yesterday as they were shipping out my service kit for them (new o-rings) and he said that I should really run yellow. I originally ran yellow 2 years ago switched to green soon after and now I'm back to yellow. I need to replace one broken o-ring in there and should be good to go.

I always felt the green springs were too soft - so I just ran yellow from the start.

so should I run yellow springs if I am running GIAC S1 right now (13.7 lbs max boost) with the intention of upgrading to GIAC S2 in the future (16 lbs+)?

I am getting DV installed this week

Which model of DVs are you getting ? From research I did, I understand the members running the OLD style of Forge DV's with GREEN springs didn't come across the issue my friend and I experienced. The main reason why Terry & shop are still puzzled by experience my friend and I went through.

So my only conclusion with the new Forge Motorsport BMW N54 Diverter Valve (FM DVBM35B) due to the design, on tuned 335i pushing over 12PSI yellow is the way to go, since green are having problem to hold the boost.

You forgot to mention of me telling you to make sure to take it for a test drive and do few WOT..... Otherwise you would of driven off, just to find out boost leak on the way home or few days later since you're too easy on your E90...

P.S. At least now you also know what a LIMP warning display looks like.......

Im going to be installing my Forge DV's today (recieved them yesterday from UPS). Based off this thread and some googling, I'm glad I switched them to yellow already (earlier this morning)

I'm pretty certain they're the "OLD" style DV's. But do double check just for FYI.

Even with "OLD" style DVs, from research I've done most OPs that are running tunes:
Piggy Back (/w higher maps) or ECU flash, DCI and DPs most of the time will put yellow springs.

I just threw this code tonight myself!! I have a STETT Charge Pipe, Forge DV's, and a DCI with a Procede V5. I have been running this setup, minus the procede, for over 15k miles and never had a problem tonight. I believe I have the yellow springs installed.

I don't know what else it could be...

Unless you provide the actual code it will be a speculative discussion. Since LIMP can be caused by many things, boost leak, mis-fire, over boost, HPFP, injectors and etc....

Are you having the 5-10 map in the procede? the underboost code for the map is a known issue and 5-25 already fix that!
