Curious if anyone knew what these were? I couldn't buff them off and am very frightened

How big are they, about dime size? could be bird droppings left on the car so long it got under the clear coat. let see some pics.

If they are really small, like a couple mm at most, I would bet my pinky it's rail dust. It embeds itself into the clear coat of all cars, but is visible on lighter colored cars. The prescription: clay.

If you live near/work near/drive near a rail yard or rail road often, you will need to clay 1-2 times (probably 2x) yearly to keep the rail dust to a minimum.

what is rail dust? Microscopic metallic spec of metal in the air? I see those on my silver alot. I thought it was small spec of road tar from freashly paved street.

Yes, its tiny. Do you mean rust of dust? Good thing I'm claying my car soon.

Rail dust is just what it sounds like, little bits of metal that float around in the air near rail yards/roads, as the trains go over them... poof, into the air the metal goes. This is a common issue with *new* cars, since they spend weeks on, you guessed it, a train.

The rail dust (yes txusa03, little microscopic bits of metal) land on the car, start to accumulate, and as they are exposed to water embed themselves into the clear coat (which is why washing and light polishing won't remove them). Clay, on the other hand, removes it very easily. Cheers.

Thanks for sheeding more lights into this. One thing I noticed is that these microscopic metallic dust burgers are everywhere on the rear trunk overhang and rear bumper. I find some on the side of the door panel. Why are they so abundant toward the rear of the car vs the front? cuz car suck up air and spit it out toward the rear i guess.

Could it also be tree sap I also have a lot of spots on my car.

Two different things I think; the rear overhang is often because of the way air flows over the car. Some cars, like the G35 coupe, e92, etc... create a vacuum when they move that sucks air over the rear deck and bumper. It's annoying, makes em dusty all the time.

The ones on the fender/doors are almost *always* brake dust from your actual car. Brake dust turns acidic when wet and embeds into paint. When I clay I notice the most contamination in three places: the roof (from rail dust sitting on it), and the front and rear fender right behind the wheels (brake dust).

Luckily a good sealant/wax can help mitigate this a little.

so i am not the only one who noticed these micro bugers. When I had black cars, I was shielded from seeing them. but with the tiag car, I can see them alot. Speaking of those micro dots, i have not washed the car for 3 weeks (due to cold temp) and I can just imagine the masive accumulation of them dots.:mad:
