335i. Violent shaking + Engine Malfunction notice

I was driving back from school on the HWY and since the road was pretty clear, I put my car into sports mode and floored it up to about 100 mph. All of a sudden I got a engine symbol on my dash and on the idrive. Said "Engine Malfunction, reduced power." and also engine service soon light came on as well. Once I put my car into Park, the whole car started shaking pretty violently.

I turned off the engine, waited about 10 min and started up my car again. I was welcomed with the engine symbol and the shakes again. I pulled away from my driveway and once I started going, the shakes became less apparent. However If I stop and park my car, the shaking starts up again. And also I have been hearing some squeaking noise from rare left suspension area when i drive through uneven surface.

Did I blow a Cylinder? Turbo? Or completely destroy my engine? If any of you experienced or know the cause of this problem, please let me know.

I have a feeling its the injectors.
Anyone have any idea how much would it cost to replace. I'm out of warranty.

You should get someone to pull your codes, but there is a good chance it is your injectors. Depending on how many you need replaced, it can get very expensive and only the dealer can perform the replacement as you need their BMW computers to calibrate the injectors once installed. If all 6 injectors are replaced I would guess somewhere around the $1500-2000 CAD for parts and labor, I think the injectors here in the US retail for around 200-300 per injector.

Good Luck

I had this happen to me last week right after leaving the dealership getting a new software update to address my long cranks. My car had a low pressure fuel sensor go bad.

Yes, Tuesday I'm taking it to the dealer.

The squeak in the left rear is pretty common, btw, but it is unrelated to your engine problem. I have the same problem and there have been a couple threads where I'd guess 15-20 people have had the problem. Nothing serious, just an annoyance.

Probably a misfire, I had a similar problem. The dealer moved the injector with the recorded misfire, reset some software, etc. Problem has returned.

Thumbs down is the presure pump

i got my 09-335i fixed at the dealer, replaced presure pump, very common for bwm,,,,, that time, i couldnt even get much power on the gas paddle, crawled into a parking lot and wait for roadside service to tow it to the dealer!

Could this be due to my JB3 chip?

Also I have a shop that I deal with for all my cars, even for my old 330i. I called him and he said he can do the fuel pump and injectors. Bad idea? Should I just get it done at the dealer?

I have a JB3 and had the exact same issue, the dealer updated software, replaced 3 injectors and 6 sparkplugs. BUT didnot replace/update the HPFP and now the light came on for that so I have to take it next week to get that fixed.
The JB3 does not help, for I was told that running a higher boost causes alot more heat to buildup in the turbos, thus affecting the sparkplugs, injectors and everything else...I don't mind taking my car to the dealer though, they hook me up with a stock 335I loaner and thats when I feel like am in a flintstone vehicle and Re-Realize how much power I got

I'm confused, JB3 does play a role in frying my injectors and fuel pump or no? should I take it out?

Take it out and see if the issue goes away. It's probably not the JB3's fault. These cars just have poorly engineered injectors and HPFP.

The JB3 or any other tune flash or piggy does not cause the injectors or fuel pump to fail. BMW has done a great job of that on their own. This is a very common problem unfortunately so just take your mods off and take it to the dealer as you're under warranty. They will fix it no problem and send you on your way I am sure they are very good at it as they probably do a few a day
