Considering putting springs on my e90
I currently have a sport package 2010 e90, and I have always dropped my cars in the past with replacing both the springs & shocks.
After searching, and reading countless threads it seems like the consensus is the springs (the one's I am interested anyway... H&R race or sport) are not that much lower than the stock sport springs, and the stock ZSP shocks will hold up just fine. I do not want to compromise my ride at all in regards to having failing shocks. I know the ride will be a little rougher, but that's fine. Before I go ahead with the purchase / install. I am primarily interested in better handling, and better looks. Is it a good idea to just put on springs and not replace my shocks as well? Anybody want to chime in who had just springs put on and didn't have their shocks replaced. How's the ride... how long has it been... how dramatically has handling changed. etc. thanks! |

If you have a brand new car, the shocks will be ok for a while BUT you will feel the ride suffer (bouncy, rough etc..) H&R Race is a no-no in my opinion with stock shocks. My friend has it on his brand new e90 and it honestly sucks, I really hate it lol. I think the H&R Sport will be fine with your shocks if you understand that the ride quality will decrease. But if I were you, get some Koni Yellows + H&R Springs, get them installed all together and save on installation.

I think I will go with H&R and Bilstein shocks, instead of the Konis. |

Correct, any aftermarket lowering spring will be stiffer and as such exhibit more stress on the OEM shocks...they will be fine for awhile but will eventually deteriorate to the point that it will no longer be performing at full capacity.
It makes sense to change out the shocks/springs together as you'll end up paying twice for labor. |

The answer is simple, you get what you pay for when it comes to vehicle suspension. As such a crucial component of your vehicle, suspension is definitely something you do not want to cheap out on. Any aftermarket lowering spring will generate more stress on the OEM Sport shock and will cause it to fail prematurely. You are correct as it is definitely a good choice to change out both the shocks and springs at the same time.
If you have the budget, I would also recommend that you do some research on a set of coilovers. Coilovers are the best suspension solution as all the parts are crafted to function together, as opposed to just lowering springs. KW is known for their reinforced and durable suspension components. KW's coilovers have been carefully crafted and designed by studying the flaws of competitors and improving on them. In addition KW coilovers can go lower than just about any other brand and allow you to set your car to a "slammed look", "sporty look", or anywhere in between. In the unfortunate event that anything should happen to your coilovers, KW's warranty backs all their products from manufacturer's defect. |

The way to go is:
Eibach Pro-Kit. Progressive rate springs, with the initial rate being very close to stock. Subtle lowering, with a negligible change in ride characteristics.
I've had mine on for several thousand miles now, with the stock sport pkg dampers, and still love 'em! |

If you want a minimal drop and better performance, consider the BMW Performance Susupension kit that Tisher sells for about $1260: http://www.trademotion.com/partlocat...catalogid=4462
It comes with struts + shocks + stiffer springs + better front sway bar and other little parts listed on that page. |

Spring pics
I installed BMW perf. Springs only with stock sport suspension. Ride quality is amazing, drop in just enough...LOVE it, best mod I've done
Heres a pic, more are posted in Photo Gallery |
