Uneven brake pad wear - more towards outer edge of rotors

I was checking my brakes today and noticed that the brake pads on all 4 wheels are worn unevenly, with significantly more wear towards the outer edge or the brake disc (rotor). The car drives and brakes fine and nothing is noticeably wrong with it.

Does anyone know why this might be happening? And is it normal?

That's normal. It's the shape of the pad when new. The edge of a new pad is tapered off.

see what I mean?

i believe they are made that way so it won't trap the metal dust/debris. thus you won't get brake squeaking
