Rear Ended!! on 55fwy SB 5/27/10

So my baby was damaged Thursday morning (7:30am) by some guy in a Jeep driving behind me in heavy traffic. He was in his company car, OC Vector District, and i guess he didn't see that traffic had stopped...so he ended up putting a hole in my rear bumper, and dented up my deck lid. There was NO damage to his car since the jeep wrangler had that bumper guard on, go figure.

Looks like his insurance will accept liability and he will prob lose his job since he has only been there for about a month...

My insurance company already got an estimate through one of their direct repair shops in signal hill. 3J's Auto Body, the guy there was very knowledgeable and makes me wanna just go through my own insurance so i can get them working on my car soon instead of waiting on the third party insurance company to come through, the only downside to this is i have to front my $300 deductible and wait for the other insurance company to pay up so I can get refunded. AND i don't pay rental car on my policy...so i gotta talk to my adjuster and see if they can get the other insurance company to pay for it.

Total time in shop: 7 days
Total in labor: $1170
Total in parts: $1625.52
Other costs: $384.74
Grand total is: $3180.26

Looks like im just going to have to get the M Sport bumper and pay the hundred dollar difference and what not.

Is the trunk damaged?
If not, I would have the other insurance company write you a check and we can get you a full M-Tech kit for that price.

you should just take the money but to make sure you should check if your rear bumper support isnt damaged

My only concern would be if there is other hidden damage behind the bumper, but if there is not, I say take the 3,100 dollars minus your deductible, get the M-sport bumper from LTBMW and pocket the rest of the cash or just get an entire M-tech kit

New bumpers and ZERO out of pocket cash!

it doesn't matter for them, because they just pass the cost down to us as consumers. Think about how much cheaper insurance will be if insurance companies paid normal bodyshop prices.

i couldn't agree more. A girl ended up trashing my mom's old toyota corolla. Seidner's wanted $4300. I purchased the parts for about 500 dollars, and my mom's cousin did the job.

they might not let you just cash out the money
i had the same sort of thing happen to me and the insurance company would only hand the money to the body shop
if they dont do that to you your really lucky because you can get alot of mods with that money!

Yes there was damage underneth the bumper, the support bar as well as the sheet metal that is welded to the bottom of the car was bent, so damages ended up costing almost $5k
