petition against RFTs
earlier today i made a thread about how BMW should offer a no cost option to have regular tire on BMWs, instead of us having to upgrade the tires. so i made this petition in hopes that we could get enough signatures and then forward it to BMW and see what can be done.
Together we can lol. http://www.petitionspot.com/petitions/wehaterfts/

instead of having non-rft as an nco, maybe they should have non-rft + some type of spare / puncture kit standard and make the RFTs as a cost option. I wonder how many people would take it up then... |

I rather have crappy performance tires that will save my ass than badass performance tires that will probably get me killed if they popped on the freeway.
Just heard a tragic story of a woman I use to talk to driving to Dallas, TX over the weekend and her and 3 family members died in a tire related car accident. |

its not that i think they are a bad idea to have on a car. they definitely serve a purpose. thats why i made sure i highlighted their uses. but i know that the average joe BMW driver is driving that car as a status symbol, and not as a BMW enthusiast. and when it comes to numbers BMW is going to do what they can for the masses, not the 1-5% of BMW drivers that bleed alpine white. they'll definitely want to keep RFT as an option for the piece of mind. but lately BMW has this mentality to make a car for everyone. why not offer a type of tire for everyone? im not totally bashing them, but it would be nice if non-RFTs were an option. that could work too.

I could go either way on the RFTs. Its nice to never ahve to worry about getting a flat in a bad area, or what not, and they seem to handle fine to me.
I'm very much against a full size spare though. It pissed me off to no end to see a heavy, $600 full size alloy taking up a boat load of space in the trunk of my E46. |

I like RFT just because it gives me a sense of security. If my wife has to drive the car at night. Instead of her pulling over in the side of the freeway or the road to change a tire and running the risk of being hit, mugged, etc. she can just drive it some where it is safe.

I think we just need a choice of what run flat is on the car. Mine came with the Pilot sport ZP and it's an awsome tire. My other car had the RE050. Also, if you hit a hole that bubbles the sidewall on a runflat, chances are if it was a regular tire, it would be flat so it would need to be replaced anyways.

For a manufacturer it isn't that easy. They can't just toss on a set of "normal" tires and be done with it.
The car was designed for the use of runflats, so the manufacturer would have to re-evaluate spring rates and suspension tuning. In addition, they'd have to redo many of the crashworthiness testing. This "petion" is, sadly, a waste of time. |

Signed... even though I like the RFT's for safety reasons (I have 3 kids after all). I do agree that owners that don't like them should have the option for non-RFT's. BTW, "their car who do not run flat tires" doesn't make sense in the petition.

Ok, so how come the standard tyres in the European market for the F10 5 series are 17" conventional tyres? Run-flats are optional. It dosen't seem so difficult to do when it suits BMW.
