How reliable is your E90?

Just wondering how reliable your BMW is.

My 320d 57reg had to go back 4 times. 2 for steering column, 1 for weather seal in the passenger door and 1 for turbo actuator. Plus 2 oil changes and 1 brake fluid change. 7 visits in two years of owner ship.

My dads 320i 55reg: 1 steering column, 1 ABS sensor, 1 Vanos unit solenoid and now in with auto gearbox failure needing a new mechatronic unit(£3000+). Plus all the trips for servicing.

Hmmm bad luck?

I certainly dont think the E90 is well put together as the E46.

My E90 has more or less been trouble free (reaches for some wood to touch), but does have a few annoying rattles that the dealer cannot fix (so I am going to have a go with some blutac!

My 520d also had a turbo linkeage failure, and has had a few niggles so ironically that is the one that is annoying me more

Dont think you should count the oil/brake fluid changes as that is routine maintencce - and this is where the E90 excels for stretching these out.

I would personally disagree from my experiences. My E90 330D has been good as gold, only a couple of niggles...

Drivers door actuator failed
fuel filler pipe leaking (still, must remember not to brim it up!!)

My E46 330D:

GM5 module failed
Diff was ripped from rear floor pan
endless problems with hot start, changed fuel pumps, cam sensor etc
injectors failed
various small oil leaks in the engine bay
dash trim decided to just fall off when it wanted

In brief then, i feel for me, the E90 is better built and "touch wood" solid mechanically.

335d hammered from day one. Good as gold apart from sticking door
handles and needing recoding

My first E90 an 06 320d was fine for 50k miles. My current car an 08 330d has been a constant niggle. I think it is more the inability of the dealers to fix problems than the reliability of the car.

fuel filler pipe leaking (still, must remember not to brim it up!!)

Mine also leaks when I fill to the brim, must be a common fault?

It's deceptive.

If you drive them back to back the e90 is much more refined. Unfortunately they do get some rattles, which never happened on any of my e46's.

rattles are my worst gripe... I think part of the problem is the runflats.....

I think you get my point - no rattles on e46 and a lot more miles.

Maybe its just Dash design or they have skimped on fixing but the e90 does rattle more

Alarm going off in sunny weather.
Boot cover (tonneau?) sticking and not automatically retracting when the boot is opened
Squeak from passenger side rear wheel
Dash rattles
Excessive rear brake pad wear
Blowing from exhaust

Obviously none of this is serious just been a hassle to keep going back to the dealer. The squeak and blowing still not fixed by the dealer. TBH have given up and will change the car when it gets to 3.
