BMW out of warranty warranties (kinda makes sense)
So hey,
Has anyone used them or rates them, say, compared to warranty direct etc? You know the history of our E91 and I am always concerned with things going wrong on this car now. I am convinced the engine is noisier and the economy is sheeeeeite. The air con is acting a dick and I am just waiting for the next thing and hoping it isnt serious. Looking at the warranty options for my car with BMW, they range from £34 to £49 a month and I like the idea of having some form of cover, regardless of the level. But say I decided that the engine knock was getting worse, what if I bought the insurance and approaced BMW in a week with an aim to a claim, am I covered? I am not going to buy insurance just to make a claim, I dont believe in that. I want it for peace of mind if i decide to keep the car but whats to say they wont tell me to cock off if i turn up with an engine knock that started some time ago. Any thoughts? JJ |

I should add, that the T's&C's read as follows:
As you have chosen to purchase a Warranty product and your vehicle has no existing warranty cover, you need to confirm the below before you are able to proceed. I can confirm that my vehicle has been fully serviced in accordance with the manufacturing recommendations/intervals and has not been modified in anyway. I accept that my warranty/assistance package will commence on 03 July 2010 and will not cover any pre-existing faults or defects that occur prior to the warranty inception. So ok, when I got the car, I changed the oil, filters and subsequently the glow plugs myself. All the lightage was reset on the dash and along we went. I do this out of habit, as with any car I buy. Its nice to know that its definately has clean oil etc in there. Should I clarify that with them before I buy or is the fact that I serviced it myself a no-no? Also, the "will not cover any pre-existing faults or defects that occur" bit concerns me. How will they know this? Surely with any fault, they could turn round to me and say "the computer says you had a faulty this that 6 months ago son, no ball" Cheers Andy |

read the small print even more....some you can't claim in the first month or 1000 miles, after that if you claim they will look to see if it was an old issue (assume they we will look at wear and tear). if deemed the problem started before the cover your screwed. BMW warranty does not include wear and tear or something else called consequential cover, by this i mean if a radiator hose brakes that in turns causes the radiator to go boom you will not be covered if the hose is not covered as part of the warranty. again read the small print because allot of companies do not cover things like hoses.
depending on mileage some like warrantly direct will make you pay the first 10% of a claim + excess etc i have just warranty out with warrantywise, they had an end of month deal going, worked out to £36 and you got 3 of the options thrown in for free, i chose aircon, airbag and MOT (this means if anything fails the MOT, regardless of what it is they pay to get it fixed and pass the MOT). They also cover wear and tear and consequatial cover and 99% of all parts, have alook over the website. i have gone throug the t&c and can't see many get out clauses.

I have extensive experience with insured warranties, many can be very reluctant to pay out..... Me? I'd stick the £50 or so a month away and be done with it. Have 3 years trouble free motoring, the put the stash towards something nice - holiday/beer/women etc

i was going to start putting away £50 a month but if something expensive goes, £50 a month aint going to go far, in fact i'd say even for something small £50 a month aint going to get you jack.
i do like sound of spending the money on some light entertainment though rather than warranty ![]()

Actually i'm surprised
Warranty wise does look good, 3 years cover for a 335d at £90 per/hour labour (i think it's about this isn't it, without checking?) Its just a grand. Thats very good if it does indeed cover pretty much everything. You can even pay another £150 for alloy cover, MOT cover on anything that fails and something else like the above poster said, Airbags... |

if you can wait till the end of the month they may run the offer again and throw in 3 of the options for nothing, i did also get another £75 off because it was the end of the month, nothing else came close to the kind of cover they do and it was the cheapest.

I think somebody commented last time this was discussed that for the BMW ext warranty you must only use main dealer servicing as well

yep its in the small print, any warranty company requires your car to be serviced on time/stamp in the book and also at a VAT registered garage, so no changing plugs/oil on the drive

Correct, but the BMW warranty specifically ties you to BMW servicing so you couldn't even use a (cheaper yet better) Indepdant.
