Ever regret a car purchase?
Basically I traded my 335 for an SLK55 in January because I wanted a V8 and I regret it. I'm planning on trading it in by xmas time on either an M3 or a C63 [I REALLY like the W204 platform]. I love having a vert, but I hate the small-ness and lack of a trunk and the fact tha tI cant take people with me. im kind of a control freak and like to be the one who drives when i go out with friends
Has anyone ever regretted a car purchase to the point that they traded in said regret before u probably should?

My mom regrets trading in an ML550 for a C350 in 08 when gas took a hike....
Besides the fact that she got ganked on the deal, that car is a pile of shit. They basically rolled in an 8k loss from the ML, which only had 8k miles on it and was one of a kind. IDK what they were thinking. The aluminum hood, doors, and trunk are absolute garbage- They dent like no other for no reason and are 500 a panel to fix... WTF. Also, the seats are shit. Half leatherette? Are you serious? They had to be redyed because theyre so shitty. The build quality is pretty sloppy all around. And she got a new c300 and i drove it and it actually feels better and faster. SO WTF. All in all that was easily the worst car they've ever gotten. Luckily, its a lease. Unfortunately, she can't get out of it till about April..... My dads hoping to get into a C63 early or maybe a C55 or whatever its going to be called. But knowing hes been taken to the clearners so many times- hes going to demand a great deal or else hes just going to get an M3. The payment is SO high (by about 200+ dollars), that nobody would ever dare assume the lease. God I hate that car.

I regretted purchasing an RSX Type S back in 2003. The car was a limp noodle below 6000 rpm and that's where you spend all your time driving! Also, FWD...never again!

A DC5 is great for what it is though...a cool looking hatch at mid $20k price range that is reliable. |

Nope, but I spend a lot of time evaluating the options first. Can't understand people who can be impulsive with such a big decision. Either they must waste a ton of money or must be unhappy most of the time (as soon as they regret their decision).

We tried to tell you.
Only car= issues. 2nd car= fun to blast around in. I have really enjoyed the 20 or so vehicles I have had. Luckily. The 335 was the only one I thought of leaving the keys in though. Hello Mr. Service man. I'm back. |

If you spent the time up front to feel it out properly you wouldn't be in this situation. Good luck man, it's going to feel horrible when you sell.

There is only so much you can evaluate without living with the car.

I mean, yeah, it's a good car, I just didn't really know what I wanted out of a car yet and I was pretty young when I got it. My car before it was an Integra so it was kind of like one of those on steroids I soon discovered I wanted torque though...

i purchased an nissan 350z back in 2003 when it was released. and sold it after 2 months.
cant stand for the shitty 6speed and the interior just sucks. but the most part that make me dump it so fast is the power window motor, it fails 4 times in 2 months wtf. |

Yeah, but that's why you have to carefully think through your priorities and know what you really want from the car. Once you know what's important to you, you can assess the alternatives pretty quickly. Even so, I think I did 3 different test drives and about 5 visits before I signed on the dotted line. Anything about the car that that I didn't like (such as having odd wheel off-sets that limit your after-market options) were too minor to matter.

I bought a 328i Msport about a year ago . I got rid of the car in 4 months. I couldn't stand the BORINGNESS of the car. The interior was dull, the driving experience was dull, the outside looked nice but I couldnt get over the fact that it wasnt a 335i either. I think most people make a mistake a couple times in their life buying a car. The truth is I do really evaluate my purchases and compare them to all other competition etc. But I get tired of cars very quickly and thats why I always seem to be in the same position. For instance Im trying to sell my 2010 Mustang GT that ive had for 6 months. Not that its not a awesome car and I havent enjoyed every second of owning it . Its just time for something new. But be prepared you will be losing money.

I regret getting my car. Luckily, my parents are just as rich and willing to help me trade up to two Veyrons (so I don't get bored with one as easily).

Small car + not having to drive people around = winner.
I think selling your SLK55 will end in regret.

its not that i dont love it. but gonzo is right, its not a great only car. the fact of the matter is this: cars are really my biggest hobby and im lucky enough to be able to afford to switch around a lot. I just wish I could be like my dad who's had an E39 M5 forever and loves it so much he wont even think about getting rid of it. I'd rather put the money in to mods on a car I love. Oh well.
